Has anyone installed these?  Any views on the long term cost savings?  How about the 25 yr lease?

Would you buy a house that had these installed (on the back roof of the house - so not so visible as some) or would it put you off?  How would you feel about buying a house that had some time left on the 25 yr lease, would you want the owner to pay this off before purchase?

Just curious - we've been thinking about doing it whilst the offers are still on the table but my head says "if it seems too good to be true then it probably is'!!

I looked into it last year and applied, but was turned down by EON as my house didn't face directly south.
Have a look on the Money Saving Expert forum, there's a mahoosive thread on there about the pro's and con's.

I'd be delighted to buy a house that had panels installed.

I had them installed last year so get the higher rate of FIT. I love them. they were installed in July and have generated 1500kwh since then earning me over £600 and reducing my bill by about half. I bought my panels by adding to my mortgage and expect them to have paid for them selves in approx 7 years.

A near neighbour has recently had the free panels installed and I think these are a real con. The only benefit to the householder is the reduced electricity bill. They don't get any of the FIT and even at the lower rate the FIT will cover the cost of the panels in approx 10 years but the company benefits from the profits for 25. It is definitely much better to buy your own if you can do so.

How many panels do you have to generate that amount of kwh?

Definitely; I wouldn't consider buying a house that someone else still retained a lease on.

We had them fitted in November last year, still early days in which to see any real benefits but on the few really sunnydays that we have had they have done well.  We have a large south facing rear facing roof which is ideal, and we paid for the system ourselves.  I don't think that you will get the same benefits if you lease them.  Luckily my husband is an energy surveyor and could discuss the whole system fully with the supplier.  I think we benefited from his knowledge as some sales teams can be less then honest.
