Hi
our boxer bitch has just contracted meningitis in her spine, she is under treatment but it has left her fully incontinent. We can just about manage it in the day but its a different thing during the night, when we come down in the morning all the bedding is wet. we have tried vet beding. Does anyone have any ideas that we could try. Also we were due to go away for a few days this weekend is there anywere around the Leicester area that people know of that may be able to care for her.

I did read on another doggie site they used pampers on their incontinent dog! might be worth a try.

I once had a very old male Toy Poodle that would wake up wet in the mornings. He was fine during the day.
I bought several "Tumbletwist" pure cotton bathroom/toilet mats, and he had a clean one every night. Easy to chuck in the machine, and it absorbed well so he didn't get sore.

Plastic bin bag on the floor to protect that, an old pillow case with a bed type incontinence sheet inside and a vet bed on top. The plastic bag protects the floor and the vet bed helps keep the dog dry. I would however wash the dog every morning and sooth the skin with the sort of cream you would use on a babies bum or a E45 cream also apply the cream last thing at night to help protect against urine burn of the skin. Bitches suffer more from this as the groin and inner legs get wet and do remove the hair to help you with the management.
Biggest problem the cost of the incontinence sheets but you may find a cheep source if you search.
Thanks all for the replys so far
At the minuet we are using an absorbent pad inside of a pull-up nappie and this is still not enough to soak it all up.
Big problem is the medication she is on, makes her drink more which does not help. is there such a thing as disposable beding ?
Will try the incontinence sheet. Floor not a problem as it is tiled. Jusy the bedding we need to keep dry
Look forward to any more idea's.
I don't know the mechanism, so I've no idea whether this would work - but it's worth a try. Many people use fresh parsley to help with spay incontinence - I believe it works nearly as well as the drugs. It seems like they add around 2 tablespoons to each feed. It's nearly parsley season and if she is keen to eat it I think at worst it will make her breath smell nice.
Oh yes - and a top layer of vet bed. It lets the liquid through and still keeps the dog warm. Also lasts for ever and is quick and easy to wash & dry.

Just use an incontinence sheet that will absorb the liquid and a vet bed on top to keep the dog dry then in the morning dispose of the incontinence sheet and wash the vet bed. Even a slatted platform with a vet bed on top will keep a dog dry as the liquid will go through it and leave the surface dry.

My GSD was incontinent towards the end, and I used to put the puppy training mats over her bed with vet bed over the top of this. This kept her actual bed dry and I just changed the puppy training pads as and when they became wet, these also helped prevent the urine smell. ( I found the RSPCA puppy pads from Argos the thickest quality that didn't ride up during the night )

I expect that you have spoken to your vet but there are 2 effective products for incontinence: Propalin and Incurin. Often one of these will work but my 15 year old needs both to stop the nightime puddles. Worth a try.

My 7 year old Weimaraner developed incontinence. She is now on 10 drops of Urilin Syrup twice a day and this on the whole has solved the problem with many more dry nights than the occasional wet one.
The drops are given with food... I put hers on a small piece of wafer thin ham and she now absolutely loves taking her medicine !!
I also bought a good quality 3m roll of vet bedding 750mm wide on Ebay for less than £30. The sellers profile name "jlshootingstar ".
