Topic Dog Boards / General / Bit of a rant!!

Just out walking my dog with a group of 5 others and all out playing on our local field, a lady walks through with a dog and asks if she can bring it over to meet the other dogs, which is no problem as they are all lovely and well mannered. She's goes on to tell us that she has only had it since Saturday and it's from a well known rescue!! The dog then starts to cough and she informs us it has kennel cough! I go on to explain that it's highly contagious and it should be on house rest for a few weeks, she was totally unaware of this! It is also un-vaccinated.  I cannot get over that a rescue would re-home a dog that has kennel cough and not even advise the owners on what to do. Needless to say we are all now concerned that our dogs will come down with it, one of which is elderly and another being a 15 week old pup!

How ridiculous and irresponsible.  I would phone the rescue and make my opinion known.  I'm guessing they won't be willing to pay for the vets bills for your 5 dogs if they go down with it - nor any lost show money etc.  We had it race through our dogs when our puppies were 16 weeks old - the worst thing was they lost out on vital socialisation as by the time the oldie had got it out of her system (they all got it in relays) it had been over 2 months since they'd met anyone.  The trainer at ring craft feels that this is one of the main reasons my girl who is now just over a year is so wary of strangers :(
