Topic Dog Boards / Health / How long for fur to grow back?
- By Nikita [gb] Date 25.02.12 11:00 UTC
I shaved two patches on Saffi's side in about mid-November - they've still not fully grown back.  About 2/3 grown I'd say.

What's normal for a lab, do people think?  Never had one before, certainly never shaved one before lol!

I think two thirds back is not bad going really. Maybe April ish??

Of course with me it depends on up coming shows.  No shows and it comes back pretty quick. Loads of shows and nothing on earth will make it grow back :)

Would it depend on whether they blow the rest of their coat making the bare bits look less obvious quicker?

The obvious question - (well someone had to ask!) - why did you shave her in the first place....? LOL

To answer your query though, I would expect something to happen more quickly on the regrowth about now when most dogs have started moulting. Linseed (flax) is said to really help with coat condition and growth - would a supplement be worth a try?

I was wondering when someone would ask that :-P

She started playing with the others back in october/november time, but her version of play is to simply leg it and have them chase her - she got nipped on the side quite roughly doing it (she does stop them now before that happens).

Thing is where she got nipped sits right under her harness strap, so although it wasn't bad, between the strap and her thick coat it wasn't healing so I shaved off the two scrapes there to let it heal.  Did the trick, she's just still got these two little squares lol!

I have flaxseed oil capsules somewhere, I'll dig them out and give it a try, ta :-)

I swear by Dorwest herbs - Kelp
(Coming form a Norwegian family, we have long used kelp for healing/politices etc.. and I swear by it, I've found from some friends it doesn't always help with pigmentation, that's really dog dependent... but for regrowth, its fab!)

I use the powder rather than tablets btw.
Hope this helps Nik.

Ah ok, not heard of that before either - but I do also have kelp! Good stuff :-)
