Hi I was wondering if any of you have tried this food, or heard anything of it? I was doing a search on the web for another food, and found this. It was develped by a sheepdog trialist in Wales specifically for working and gundogs - because she couldn't find anything one the market of the quality she was after at a reasonable price. They don't advertise at all which is how they keep their price down, they say they use high quality chicken/lamb mixed with either rice or wheat (they do gluten-free as well), no additives other than natural anti-oxidants, no GM or soya. They seem to have an extensive range too.
Anyway, it sounds good from what they say ( ;) ) just wondered if anyone knew of it.
Cheers :)

Hi, I have , I was looking into a different feed for mine, and came across it. They are v. helpful, Ceri does lots of competition work, I emailed her to find out about stockist etc. there isnt any near me, but they do direct delivery too, the postage is about £6.25 for up to 30kg, so you are better off ordering two bags of 15kg, they will shrink wrap them and send for £6.25! so after saying all that, I dont actually use it, I got lured away by autarky, (they stock that too) but can buy mine locally, if for any reason I decided to change from autarky, it would be my next choice. I would go for 'that'll do' and 'herbie rings' . those gundogs look fantastic on it dont they ! sorry if I've been rubbish, but thats all I know on it I'm afraid :D Julie:)

No, not rubbish Julie :D Sounds like me, it was Autarky I was looking for in the first place as I don't have a local supplier of it I was looking into mail order. But I do like the sound of their own stuff, and when I clicked on local stockists whaddaya know? There are only 2 in Scotland and one is my breeder! So his own wonderful looking dogs might be a very good advert:) I actually only noticed his name since we saw them last so we haven't spoken about food yet, but it's good to hear that other people think well of it! And if getting from him saves me the mailorder costs, then so much the better :D
Thanks Julie

Righto, something I know something about ;)
I won some CSJ food (Chicken Gluten free) at a show in October and the rep there gave me some Herbie Rings to try too. I also received a generous free sample in the post too after filling in a questionnaire. For my older girls (12 & 8) it was fine but within a week, Mia had lost weight & condition, I think due to it's low fat content. Within a week of being on Nutro she looked better so I can only assume the 7% difference in fat is what she needed. But for an older or less active dog, I would say it's worth a try.
Mia is a 2 & half y o Large Munsterlander, if you want to compare with your dogs/breeds.

Thanks Lily, that's useful to know - as I said I think our breeder uses this food anyway so it is the one I would start off on but I will keep an eye on his condition. I think both the Herbie rings and the Chicken and rice are recommended for 'resting' dogs and they have a couple of others in the range for more active ones, but I don't know if it was anything other than higher protein levels.
I am seeing them again tonight, hope I have the willpower not to want to take him straight away :D I haven't seen them since they were 3 weeks old, they are now almost 7 so there will be a biiig difference :)

Arwenwulf,
I think you'll find that even the puppy food isn't very high in fat either, well not what I would want to put my Munster pups onto. I know one of the reps - Peter Smith - in Scotland as he was the rep at the show I went to. Is this where you're getting your pup from?
Let me know how you go with it if you decide to continue with it. Mine certainly ate it and their toilet was ok just it was Mia's lose of bodyweight that made me wary.

Hi lily and arwenwulf
their Rocket Fuel is 30% and their puppy is 31% , but then not all feed suits all breeds, I found this with both chudleighs and skinners, loads of spaniel people swear by it, but it didnt suit my little springer at all, he pooed for england, that is without the wind problems with all three on this. I had the same with Burns too, they all looked half starved. I'm really pleased with autarky, and all of mine have put on weight nicely, and the coats look good too, plus we can all take the pegs off our noses in the house now!!! and the wallpaper has stopped peeling itself off the walls (it was really that awful) :D :D I think you can but try things out and see what suits your brood, what more can you do? :D :D :D Julie:)

Hi again Lily,
Well we went to see him again on Friday :D :D He really is the loveliest little thing, and he will be ours in 6 days time! :) It's not Peter Smith, his name's David Ross but I think they know each other through shoots and pick-ups. He will be giving us a bag of the puppy food so we will see what happens. Interestingly though, he said that Ceri (who developed the food) approached Dodson and Horrell (who make Chudleys) to make it so it is not all that dissimilar to Chudleys, Julie, just a few extras or differences that she requested. Also he has weaned them completely onto it, no milk feeds at all, so if there was a worry about fat content they might not do as well on it. Does this make sense? They honestly look great, none of his adult dogs look too lean and the puppies are just as belly-round as they should be, but I maybe am not the best judge. I have Raven registered with our vet now, and will get him an apointment when we get him so we should be able to keep an eye on his weight and condition.
Keep you posted :)
