In a breed that has such small numbers it is surprising how many of us are on this forum, it has long been said that to own our breed and show it you have to be at least middle aged but perhaps you also have to be chatty and gregarious as well or perhaps we are just self-opinionated - would not shock me as our dogs are and they say we grow like them.
Anyone else see traits or types within their breed that is higher than in the population in general?

Well Beardies are said to be scatty......... ;-)

When stewarding a number of breeds, the 'type' of person who shows a certain breed always strikes me as being very similar.
I did a group recently, with several breeds being classified within that group.
One breed seemed to be populated with very jolly ladies, all friendly to one another (and strangely all favouring repeat entries). Much laughter, back slapping and a real air of amateurishness about them.
Next in, a breed with a fierce looking bunch who snatched the cards from me, no time for pleasantries, stoney faces, tight smiles of congratulations. They did have a lot of coat to assemble of course.
The next, nearly all men, suited and booted and seemingly with an eye for later competition, big macho dogs where both the dog and the owner scan the horizon.
I do this group fairly often and it always seems the same....interesting, just people watching isnt it? :-)

I have to say when I moved into another breed, or added another one I was surprised at how feminine many of the female handlers were, very few butch woman and always dressed smartly.. lol.. Most of the handlers in my other breed are owned by middle aged/retired couples in general and very rarely suited and booted.
In one of the utility breeds even at open shows you find the dog and handler in tip top condition and the handlers are always suited and booted!!
There are a couple of breeds in the working group and when you look at their handlers they all conform, big butch men and women, lol.. Their dogs tend to match also..

Well Bernese are pretty laid back, always up for a bit of a cuddling session, love a muddy yomp round the fields and turn out pretty tidy with just a quick wash and wear...suits me to a tee !

I too added another breed and was surprised at how different groups of dog people can be! If nothing else the level of clapping (or absence of) even up to the screams and cheers around some rings sticks out. My Mum loves coming to shows with me if only to people watch. So far we have noticed breeds whose owners wear lots of rhinestones, those rocking the doorman/east end gangster look, the ones with lots of adventurous dye jobs (and this comes from someone who currently has at least 50% of her hair purple)...not to mention the ones that wear heels and the briefest of outfits for charging around the ring! Thank heavens we are not all the same!

LOL don't think we are all the same in Spanish, although a lot of us aren't exactly slim LOL.
What is funny to watch though is that here in the UK nearly all of the handlers are women. In their country of origin it seems a rarity to see women showing them! The Spanish think it's weird how over here it's female dominated...

Ah but in Spain the women are too busy working to have the time for a leisure activity.

Lol Tooolz, I'll have to have a look at that next time I steward - I'm usually looking at the dogs rather than the owners! What are our breed's owners like, dare I ask? :-D
