Hi, my 15 month old dog likes to try and get other dogs toys when we are out, it happened this morning and nearly ended up in a fight with the other dog which is not a nasty dog. I have taught him 'leave it' which he is pretty good at when we are at home but it seems to be a different story  when we are out and around other dogs, whilst typing this its made me think I have to do more 'leave it' work while we are out and around other dogs, I do take a toy out but he doesnt want to know it when there is another dogs toy involved, has anyone else had this experience and got any other suggestions please?  Thanks

never experienced this.....

but you could try having a bag of toys that he really enjoys playing with and take them with you to the park making this the only place he gets to play with them... when you get home they go on the shelf until the next time.. I do this with my dogs balls which they only get at certain times... its amazing how they will make every second count when they do get to play with them!

Making sure you got your point across? Lol!

I agree though - two of mine can be swines for stealing toys and while one will drop on cue then leave every time, the other one won't and can be hard to get it back from again.

But if they have cuz toys with them they just won't bother.

I agree with the others. I would start by going back to basics with the "leave" command and gradually introduce more and more high value toys/food, only moving on to the next level of value item when you have 100% success with the lower value items.
Aswell as increasing the value of the items, proof the "leave" in different areas, house/garden/park etc.

Theres nothing worse than a dog stealing my dogs toys, and obviously as you have found out some dogs are more than willing to protect what is theirs.
