Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Anyone tried Wafcol salmon & potato?
- By Trialist Date 03.02.12 18:28 UTC
I'm looking at feeds for a dietary condition, short lived ... bacterial overgrowth. I need low fat/oil but high protein. I've come across Wafcol salmon and potato which fits the bill, and their Light version fits it even more (although I would have to add a bit of protein to bump the levels up - the fat/oil percentage is perfect though).

Has anyone tried these? If so what are your thoughts?

I'm awaiting samples, I have no doubt my lovely avatar girly will enjoy it, she's keen on her grub! If anyone has tried it for a digestive problem I'd be even more keen to hear your verdict.

Many thanks :-D

Not tried Wafcol, but about to eat M&S salmon and potato for my dinner, yummy!!

Oh, that's not helpful at all ... I, as the human, don't do fish :-O

I am also on a diet ... hhmmm, still wondering what to have for dinner!!

I hope you enjoy it, I suspect my doggy, well, doggies really, would enjoy it too! Potato seems easier to digest than rice and I really wish there were cheaper and more manufacturers of it for doggy nosh!

Enjoy :-D

My friend's GSD lived on this Wafcol for years as he had a sensitive stomach. He did well on it.

One of mine has a sensitive tummy and that is the only kibble I will feed him. He is mainly fed raw but if he has biscuit then it's Wafcol. I have always found that they smell of what they are meant to be, seem to keep fresh for a a long time as I don't use it regularly. Not cheap but worth it in my opinion.
Good Luck

We used it years ago for a girl who was intolerant to wheat/gluten, she loved it and did very well on it.

I have had to use this for a young rescue pup that came in very thin and always had upset tummy no matter what was tried But because we now know he is intolerant to wheat/gluten he is now fed Wafcol S/P and doing well in his new home...

Used it with success on intolerant boy, also used Burns, a bit pricey but was also excellent with digestive and skin problems.

Just as an update, though doubt anyone interested! My girlie tried Wafcol (I got the light as it fitted the fat/protein levels perfectly) and whilst she liked it very much, she was still very loose on it. She's now doing very nicely on Chappie complete dried and tinned :-) It actually works out almost double the daily cost of feeding the Wafcol (now that might surprise some of you who don't do copious spreadsheets to work out daily feeding costs ;-) ) but we'll stick with it until her course of antibiotics is over and her tum is back to it's normal fit and healthy self!

One of my other girlies is now enjoying the Wafcol - I've told her she needs to lose just a little weight, we've yet to see if it does the trick!

Glad you found something that worked. The police dogs where I was stationed used to be fed on tinned chappie and it suited them- really surprised to hear that it works out more expensive than Wafcol but you get to the stage that you will pay "whatever" for something that works. Hope it continues ok.

Thank you! It's the tinned that bumps the costs up, just under £1 per day compared to, I think from memory, around 50p per day on the Wafcol!

Have you ever tried Harveys Choice hypoallergenic dog foods. I put my dogs on them and they all do well on it.
I tried one of mine that has skin problems on their fish and potato that has an ingredient for allergies and it cleared him up a treat. I have also been told that their duck and potato is good for sensitive tummies. They are breeders themselves so I expect they know more than some manufacturers do lol. I know I always go to my breeder if I have a problem. Here is their link for you, hope it helps. http://www.harveyschoicepetfood.co.uk/petsupplies/prod_1885628-Fish-and-Potato-with-AllergyXreg-.html

You seem very keen to tell everyone about this brand of food. I see you've posted about it in numerous threads.
- By doggylover [gb] Date 03.03.12 17:29 UTC
Yes I have because I believe if you try something and its good then you should share it and not keep it to yourself.
It took me a very long time to find my dog a food to make his ailments go away, why wouldn't I want to tell everyone about that. If you had a dog that had something wrong with it and you found a cure would you not want to share with others. Facts are facts and that is my dog is cured and all my dogs are doing really well on this food and if it helps other peoples dogs then why not share the information. At the end of the day people will all make up their own minds about it and if they try it or not so all I can say is that if I have helped one dog then it has been worth my time being on here.

When all your posts are about promoting a product it does look like spam.
Perhaps you could tell us more about yourself and your dog? :)
- By doggylover [gb] Date 03.03.12 18:00 UTC
Not that I have to explain myself to you but my dog suffered for a very long time with itching and ear problems and after years of this and changing from one food to the next he is finally cured. I tried many hypoallergenic foods and even with these his problems were still there. Unless you have a dog like this yourself you can't possibly imagine what it is like to see your dog constantly itch and have sore ears and keep shaking his head to one side and cry with the pain so when you find a cure you want to tell the world. All I was doing was sharing my joy but I never thought of it as being spam, I was just happy but I suppose you are right, just wanted to try and help people as my dog did well on it and my other dogs have really done well on it too.

There are several people on this board who will sympathise with your dogs predicament.  What breed is he?
