The one show will be showing a piece tonight on the pitfalls of buying animals on-line on sites such as Gumtree tonight.

Thanks for the heads up, will look out for that one :-)
(Must remember to facebook link this to SueJaw, she'll be interested, I know she has challenged her local free ads)

Thanks HG.. Noted and will be watching :-)  Yes I have challenged my local Freecycle about this..

Fancy paying 150 quid for a JR X chihuahua - and that after they´d been told it had been injured.  I can, however, understand how they felt sorry for the dog and wanted to "rescue" it.

That couple were from my town..
The bit I didn't agree with is defleaing and making sure the mother has had her vaccinations, I wouldn't want a pup having flea treatment on it when it doesn't have fleas and as for the mother being vaccinated, so many people titre test, homeopathic etc.. Oh well at least they did a buyer beware though..

>homeopathic etc..

How could they recommend something that is not evidence based?

I pigging well missed it, forgot it was on ! what a plank lol.

Watched it, but the whole programme was rather spoilt by that idiot Johnny Vaughn, who would not shut up and constantly but in on everything.
Anything that makes the GP do more research before buying a puppy has to be a step in the right direction.

Agree re Johnny Vaughn. Poor Matt trying to struggle on with his silly interuptions and he didn't do bulldogs any favours with his remarks. It,s a shame that the only advice given was to go to a rescue centre and no mention of looking for a responsible, registered breeders who do health checks etc.

Although Matt did suggest seeing pups with their mother but Johnny cut him off mid flow and as they are running to a strict time frame no more could be added to this advice.

I felt that JV wanted to say more which would be along the lines of health tested dogs. When he started speaking about his Bulldog he mentioned health, he was interrupted and he pull a face at the mere mention of flea treatment and vaccinated mother. It was very time restricted I agree and a lot more good could of been said..

Afraid it was another case of the Beeb not doing their homework properly.    I never ever vaccinate a bitch who is possibly going to be bred in the next few months - we always do an antibody titre.      Nor do we do flea treatment on an in whelp bitch - mind you, we're very lucky that we rarely get fleas anyhow.

And also, for our own interest, our pups are on Champdogs - not necessarily for sale, but because it's my only personal  website, as I'm not clued up enough to make my own!!

So does that make me a breeder to be avoided..........

Jo

(Actually, haven't had a litter for 3 years now anyhow!)

That was all a bit of a nothing, I did feel sorry for the people featured, yes they went about getting a puppy the wrong way but they were kind hearted and got fleeced for it.

I did wish JV would stop manhandling that puppy though, at one point it looked as if he had it in a head lock !

I have contacted BBC to make a comment that yet again they need to give more advice to potential puppy buyers.  Not everyone wants a puppy from a Rescue Centre.  Perhaps if several of us did this, they may tackle the subject again.
