Topic Dog Boards / General / Bakers Advert tonight
- By Merlot [gb] Date 13.02.12 10:42 UTC
I see Bakers are broadcasting an advert tonight that is set to have our dogs reacting as it contains High pitched sounds our dogs can hear but we cannot, to be screened at 7.15 during Emmerdale. Bakers say "Dogs will react by pricking thier ears up or barking but is harmless"
Is it right that this should be acceptable on our TV's ?
Not sure why exactally but I find something wrong in targetting dogs in this way. I know that it will make no difference to them as it it us owners that choose thier food, but is it right to subject them to this on purpose? Who is to say it will not upset some sensitive dogs? Could be interesting to see what reaction our dogs give.

- By Dill [gb] Date 13.02.12 12:09 UTC
If it doesn't have Polar Bears, Grizzlies, Wolves, Pandas or Penguins my lot ignore it anyway LOL
- By Celli [gb] Date 13.02.12 12:10 UTC
Neither did mine, both continued gently snoring on the couch lol.

Ringcraft tonight, so we'll miss it. Doubt if mine would take any notice but will watch out for it in the future.

If anyone's going to react it will be Hattie. She hated the jingly thing on the ITV logo at Xmas so we'll see what happens. I'll report back!

To deviate slightly, my boy goes bananas when the music starts for the specsavers ad that causes a shepherd to shear his dog along with the sheep!!

Daisy!!
I just 'jet washed' my screen with my mouthful of tea laughing at that!

I watched the advert on the news this morning... Storm did a bagpuss yawn and went back to slepp when I said "watch this!"

The 'expert' on the news said that our televisions don't work to the same Hertz that the 'only audible to dogs' whistle is transmitted, aparently we Humans hear at 20 Hertz and dogs up to 40 Hertz... So as we only hear up to 20 there is no need for our tellys to transmit any higher so actually its probably not even being transmitted!

Clever Bakers tho'... the ad has had free play on most news and maagazine shows today.

My dogs wont be watching Emmerdale either, its after their bedtime lol. However Im glad it wasnt only my dogs that couldnt stand that bell jingle thing at Christmas, every time it went off all three of mine ran to the back door to look out into the garden.  The only thing I could think of why is that perhaps it sounded like a cat bell.  We have a rogue cat that likes to dance about in front of the back doors and stick its tongue out at the dogs lol

Well my lot didn't take a blind bit of notice!
- By tadog [gb] Date 13.02.12 19:15 UTC
nor mine!
- By Harley Date 13.02.12 19:18 UTC
Mine aren't allowed to watch Emmerdale either but I think one of them must have heard about the advert and switched the TV on whilst I was out of the room :-) and the dog barking did make H turn and look so not sure if it was the bark or the whistle that caught his attention.

Cooper has to be evicted from the room if the theme music for Coronation Street is playing as he sings along to the entire soundtrack - he only watches Corrie at my daughter's house :-)
- By suejaw Date 13.02.12 19:18 UTC
Well one remained fast asleep on the sofa and then other one looked at the TV when the dogs on tv were barking, other than that nowt!!
- By Merlot [gb] Date 13.02.12 19:18 UTC
No mine slept throughout !!

Well I'm in Edinburgh at the moment, and the woofs are back home in Kent, so they won't have seen/ heard this yet, but I think this will get a reaction from my beastie boy. The high bark will bring his attention (even from another room), and once he's slid to a halt 3 inches from the screen, the on screen dogs will keep his attention.

He too recognises jingles from adverts with animals, off the top of my head - the trainline with the sheep, and the nationwide? One with the china collie, will bring his attention.

Having said all that his absolute favourite thing is formula 1, or moto GP.
- By JoStockbridge [gb] Date 13.02.12 19:21 UTC
Nope Fay didnt pay a bit of attention at all. Well unless the high pitch noise was saying steal you owners glove and take it to bed that is. lol
- By tooolz Date 13.02.12 20:16 UTC
They missed out the thing which would interest my lot...birdies.
No interest from a bunch who normally do monitor my viewing quite closely...just in case of a sighting  :-)
- By MsTemeraire Date 13.02.12 23:34 UTC
I missed it too...
...but watching the local news earlier during an item about trains, the interview was conducted in a station and my dog - fast asleep on sofa with legs in the air - jumped to attention when he heard the "Bong Bing Bong!" preceding a station announcement.... :)

Shows you how much we've travelled by train over the years!
- By Boxacrazy [gb] Date 14.02.12 06:23 UTC
Nope all of my Boxers weren't even interested still all tightly curled up asleep on the sofa.
- By Ells-Bells [gb] Date 14.02.12 06:28 UTC
Six dogs here - all on rug in the lounge and 5 slept right through it and one other who was already awake and had half an eye on the TV anyway didn't look any more interested than any other advert!  I find they react to dogs running on TV than barking, unless it's a distressing bark or a puppy...
- By Pedlee Date 14.02.12 08:13 UTC
No real reactions here, but Hattie wasn't in the room. I'm sure she'd have had something to say about the barking dogs. Mo's ears slightly twitched, but that was about it.
- By Boody Date 14.02.12 19:12 UTC
I think it was a cunning ploy so we'd all switch over and recieve subliminal messages from it to buy them all bakers :-P
- By STARRYEYES Date 14.02.12 21:21 UTC
I only remembered it because I was watching emmerdale ... they all ignored it but puppy looked at the tv when one of the dogs barked.. get more of a reaction to corrie ..LOL
- By Pinky Date 14.02.12 22:02 UTC
Well I had a massive reaction from all four of mine, yeh they all needed to go for a p**s , sorry girlie tinkle :)
