My bitch is 3-1/2 years old and she has been bred 4 1/2 weeks ago. everything was fine until 2 days ago she had a dark brown discharge, a lump of slimey discharge probably in a strand the size of a pencil. I took her to my vet who scanned her but could not see any fetus, he said she may have aborted them and she may need a course of steroid injections to flush her womb out ready for the next season. Im a bit confused because my friend was in a similar situation and the vet couldnt see any fetus in his bitch until 8 weeks But he gave her anti-biotics and she had a lovely 7 litter. I know my vet is a professional but do you think he is doing right by flushing her womb evn at this early 4 week stage? please help
I had a bitch who had a pure black discharge (i.e. old blood), it was running down her legs and making her look awful, this was at roughly the same stage of pregnancy. After a course of antibiotics she gave birth to 9 healthy pups.
thanks everyone, I took her to a different vet and he gave me NISAMOX anti biotics for her to clear any kind of infection she may have if she had one! Also the scan revealed thickening on the womb which he thinks may be sacks of what was a fetus may have been in that she may have aborted! BUT there is still a tiny chance she has caught but still aint got a show at 4 1/2 weeks. I will just sit back and see what happens over the next few weeks and hope for the best.
