Topic Other Boards / Foo / Jeans - long lasting

Following on from the thread about Not Your Daughters Jeans I'm after some opinions please ladies.

I have always bought M&S jeans as they fit me well, I like the stretch and they used to last ages, but after my last couple of pairs failed I am looking to see what other brands people rate.

I wear jeans to work every day, I'm sat down for a fair bit so I don't want anything that tends to cut in too much at the waist when you sit down.  It's a construction site so I prefer not to wear low rise or hipsters and I don't want a fashion pattern like diamante, tears or sequins - I'll never live that down.  I am a size 16 and at just 5' I need the short pairs.  I also carry a lot of weight around my thighs/hips/bum so I am after jeans that are built for women with curves, not ones that look like the pattern has been drawn with a ruler!  As such I have tried jeans from Next, Levi's & wranglers and none of them fit me.

I tend to have two pairs on the go at once and the last two, both from M&S, have worn away on the inside of the thighs just behind the seam in just 7 months.  They were a slightly loose fit so I know I wasn't being hopeful in the sizing and the seam is still intact but I think I walked the fabric too thin so it has torn.

So does anyone have any recommendations for long lasting jeans?

I wear jeans from Evans generally, as their fit it best for me.  They last pretty well too (although i don't wear jeans day in day out - but i used to and they lasted then), and they do plain styles in short lengths.  I bought a pair from Matalan the other week, and they fit well too, but they're pretty thin (for £14 id din't expect much though!), but are skinny jeans for going out in.  My mother-in-law, who like you and i, carry weight round out bums and legs swears by Dorothy Perkins jeans.

My neighbour bought a pair from newlook that were too small when she got them home £9.99 she asked me if I wanted to try them before she took them back and they are the most comfortable jeans I have ever worn and probably the cheapest ,
I will definetly buy from new look when I need some more.

I have issues with jeans gaping around the lower back area.. The BEST jeans for me are Lucky Brand, they are from the US however i've been buying them off ebay worn and brand new, they aren't expensive over there.. Sadly they aren't sold in any stores over here that I am aware of!!

I always prefer Per Una for fit, Next are larger than they need too be around the bottom and legs, and normal M&S never fit me well.
A decent pair of levis though are never going to be bettered. At least this is for me at an old ladies 16/18  5' 7 1/2".

I have a pair of Wrangler Q Baby ultimate riding jeans and they're fantastic, not like regular wranglers at all, very comfy with no gap at the back, being a shorty too, i did have to get them taken up but well worth it. I bought mine from the US through Sheplers and they arrived in just over a week.

Hahaha, that's probably why they fit me so well!

Just what I need then as I have huge thighs.

I find topshop do very well in the jeans department. I swear by their bootleg cut. They wear and wash well too.I've got pairs that have lasted for years (albeit a bit faded from their original colour!)
Also, Asda are getting very good for jeans too. I have struggled for years but so far they are the best two shops for jeans for me.
Topshop is slightly more expensive but working out how long i have worn them for i'd say their jeans are a reasonable price
:-)

For everyday dog walking jeans I find Asda's are great. Nice and high in the waist and plenty of stretch...I'm a 16 too...

My best ever fitting pair came from Tesco, lasted about 5 years and were probably washed twice a week as I didn't have any other jeans. I got a pair of leather ankle boots at the same time & still wearing them, trouble is they cost twice the purchase price to get a sole and heel repair.

Cotton traders do a good range of jeans, and do various lengths. I am a petite size 16 and have been happy with mine. They fit well and have a good stretch in them.
I have some from M & S as well and they have always lasted.
I can never find any Jeans in ASDA or Tesco with a long enough zip, they all seem to have silly little zips and don't fit right on the waist. I hate having to make sure I haven't got a builders bum and keep pulling them up.

I always want to pull up the jeans of young lads I see these days, They always look so very uncomfortable, and why do they think everyone wants to see their underwear ?? !!! I thing I must be just too old !

I do think that wearing a belt helps particularly with cheap jeans :) There are lots of very nice belts around so no excuses for falling down jeans :) There is no way anyone would want to see my 'builders bum' when I'm gardening :) :) :)
- By hairyloon [gb] Date 08.02.12 11:29 UTC
I agree Daisy, a good belt is invaluable, and the builders bum look really isn't attractive!!

I'll add another vote for ASDA jeans here, I had a pair of stretch straight fit jeans for years, they lasted really well and were only about £7 or so.

I always buy M & S and they have always been fine.

Interesting fact which may or may not help.

My boys occasionally still watch that show Brainiac and there was one not so long ago where they decided to test jeans.

They bought a cheap £9.99 pair and a really expensive branded pair, put them both through very rigorous tests, including dragging behind the back of a car, pulling and stoning. :-D  Did all sorts to them.  Then put them both in a shop window and asked passers by to choose the designer or the cheap, most chose the cheap pair as the expensive jeans. :-D

The conclusion was that jeans are jeans they last the same whether £10 or £300.

Unless you buy them and the stitching looks weak to start with, I guess it doesn't matter.

Excellent, thanks very much for all those suggestions, I've got a week off coming up so I can see a day spent in topshop, Dorothy P's, Asda and Tesco trying on all their jeans.  I'll also have a  look at those Wrangle Q Baby too.

I'm the same as Suejaw, I struggle to find pairs without the gaping waistline across the small of my back, I find pairs that do that then become really uncomfortable when I sit down. Thats why I have already kinda ruled out Next, every pair I've tried on gapes around the lower part of my back.
- By luddingtonhall [eu] Date 08.02.12 13:43 UTC
Hmmm, maybe I just got a couple from a bad batch them as I bought them both at the same time.  I might give M&S another go then, I've always liked their jeans, especially the Per Una ones, for fit.

Thats the good thing about the Q Baby's, the no gap waistband, if you go with them make sure you read about the sizing, US sizes tend to be a bit more generous than ours, and look at the length, some are longer than others.

Sheplers have a sale on too.. Trying to find out what their shipping costs are as the price of the Q baby are only $44.99 which is dirt cheap imo!! BUT with shipping costs, we'll see..

This is a useful site for calculating any import duty and VAT

Import cost

I order quite a bit from the US and I've only ever been hit once with import tax ( two pairs of boots ) it seems to be a bit hit or miss if you get charged or not, obviously if you do get charged it negates any saving you may make buying over seas.

I've always found Sheplers to be excellent to deal with, very efficient.

daisy that's an excellent site :-) I can see now why I've only had to pay duty once, your allowance is £135 !
