I've just been brushing Holly and noticed that she's got a small bald spot (about the size of a 5p coin) on the side of her throat. It's sort of in her collar area and feels a bit scabby when I touch it. There aren't any hairs at all in the bald spot and all I can see is grey skin. It's very noticable, especially as the rest of her hair is short in that area and she's black.
She's not got fleas (as far as I know) but she does keep scratching at it :(
Any ideas what it could be? There are no other patches on her, just this one and I'm completely baffled. The rest of her coat isn't in great condition -it seems very dry so I'm wondering if she might have 'something'.

Forgot to say - I can't really take her to the vet as she's in season and it's not an emergency.

if you put on her collar and lead, id not be too suprised if you find the bald spot is where it rubs when walking :D

No, it's not her collar - I thought of that and checked :(

It's not where her id tag is bashing against her when she runs or walks?
