Which of these 2 do folk prefer and why?

Is having online versions the same as having the hard copy?

I hope to get back in the ring with my dachsies later this year and thought I would ask so I can get the better option, used to get Dog World[great reading whist waiting for a bitch to whelp, cut out any info you need and pass it to her for light reading or shredding up which ever she prefers] but not been able to compare the two.

Personally I believe you need both when you are serious about showing. You get far better breed notes and show reports in OD as DW cut so much out, but the news, columns etc are often better in DW. I find it very fiddly to read online (it is exactly the same as the hard copy) but I do with OD and take DW in hard copy. I LOVE the way you can look up show reports online for OD for any year going back a fair few.

Then there is the fact some reports only go in one paper.

Thanks for that

Swings & roundabouts I think..DW is just putting up their prices though from £25 to £29 for online but you can opt out & have just hardcopy for £25, which I did as I never seemed to be able to see anything even though I had logged in..it kept asking me to log in!!!

Many years ago when I was keen & rich(well richer than I am now) I took both but havent for at least 12 years...

Dog World every time for sitting reading at the kitchen table!! We've been getting it for over 22 years non stop. I do subscribe to both as I like to peek on a Wednesday at both of them online to see if any crits have been printed that I'm waiting for. Same as Goldmali love being able to look back at crits on Our Dogs. Just had a letter from Dog World to say that the subscription has gone up in price, but well worth it in my opinion and still cheaper than buying at newsagent.

I used to have both but our breed note writer in DW doesn't write as much so I stopped. Our Dogs every time for me, I like the way the shows are laid out alphabetically and my breed note writer does a good job, she is a friend so I know that what she submits gets printed whereas the DW one gets edited. There are a couple of columns I miss in DW but that's all. My last time of subscribing they made such a hash of it ( with no apology) that made me decided to stop.

Can't help you re the online version of either.

Yes I'm a breed note writer for OD and they are excellent at printing everything I send in, as it is.

I used to write breed notes for DW, and had to buy the paper to see what was printed as they often edited, and sometimes that would change the tone of what was written.

Barbara I don't think I would be too pleased if someone edited an article I wrote which changed what I was saying especially if it was about my own breed.

Thanks folks for your comments

I write the breed notes for both papers and both papers get the same notes, yet its never printed the same in both papers....You would think 2 different people write the notes, quite annoying when DW edit out the humour and other bits!

DW not only heavily edit breed notes but they also edit judges critiques!  I thought a couple of years ago I had sent my brief note version of a critique for a show in to DW  by mistake as the one I sent to OD appeared complete.  But when I checked the file I had sent it was the same to both papers.  You can look at critiques in OD then in DW and they often are much shorter in DW, and as someone says then the whole "meaning" may be changed.

That has been an issue and a friend of mine now puts her critiques on-line for exhibitors to see so they know what she actually said.

I stopped doing the breed notes as a result of something I wrote being edited to give a possibly different interpretation of what I meant and upset a few people who tackled me about it at Crufts, it wasn't nice and I gave it up after doing them for five years, after all you give your time for nothing and don't even get the paper out of it but still had to buy it (vital because of the editing).

I started before I had a computer and I had to ring people for show results etc.
