my 12 week old westie toddy, had his final jab today at the vet .
what is confusing me is he said keep today in the confines of the house and garden for another 2 weeks.
one of my books says 2 days and another book says a week i am quite confused can any one give me advice.
this is my first puppy and although hard work he is as beautiful as my children and just as much pleasure.
Hi Guest, your pup will still be vulnerable to diseases for the next couple of weeks & this is why your vet has told you to keep him in the house. Vacc don`t work immediately & need the couple of wks to give him full cover so you ought to listen to your vet.

thank you christine,
it was all confusing i think i have been reading to many books.
but with a puppie you want all the information you can get dont you.
thanks again
It may be worth considering taking your pup out and about in your arms until the waiting period is over to meet people (not anywhere dodgy, for want of a better term). I did this after much deliberation because it does help so much with socialisation. Pups kept from meeting strangers very early on can sometimes display a shy attitude.
We went to posh garden centres, that sort of thing :), and never put her on the floor.
Just a thought anyway, good luck with your pup :)

We too were given different advice from vets in the same practice !!
We thought it was 10 days from info we had read . One vet who did the first injection said 2 weeks and the vet who did the last injection said 7 days

to be on the safe side we took the 2 weeks advice !

thanks lel thats what i will do.

My vet also told me 14 days, but told me it was a good idea to meet dogs that were definately vaccinated, I suppose that would have to be indoors or in your own garden, also puppy socialization classes are a great idea, there your puppy can meet other puppies in the same boat and still get valuable learning play time. My puppy was so submissive, but at the end of the 4 week course, she was sticking up for her self and playing properly with dogs two and three times her size, and you get to talk to other owners, compare notes and have a good laugh at the little ones antics.
