Did who ever gave you the result not say what that result meant, different methods have different scores, they normally say repeat on such n such a day or what day to mate if ovulation has already taken place.

The eggs are ripe 48hrs after ovulation takes place, they then live for approx 4 days after that, the sperm is ready from the off and lives for approx 5 days in the uterus so it is getting the ripe viable eggs meeting up with the sperm whilst they too are still viable which can work from one mating[hasn't for me in the past] I find 2 matings 48hrs a part has worked best.

The ideal day to mate would be three days after ovulation (when all the most eggs will have reached maturity as ovulation takes about 24 hours to complete), this is what would be done if the bitch was having AI where the sperm lives for such a short while compared to fresh natural service.

You also have to take account of likely receptivity, some bitches and especially some males will not mate a bitch until she is really ripe, even though she could become pregnant from an earlier mating.

Certainly in my breed both young and experienced males will often not want to mate until 2 - 3 days after ovulation.

all i know is that the lady who phoned me the message about the blood test results said she had ovulated and best time to mate was31st jan   1st or 2nd  feb so as i can only get to the stud dog once as she is fetching half way and i am taking bitch half way  so i have settled on the 1st of feb and hope ive made the right day

I was wondering if the male would do the deed as majority feel more secure staying at home and the bitch come to them, with this scenario neither dog will be at home.

For my last litter I met the stud dog owner halfway at the M6 services between J14 / 15! There are some very convenient bushes where we took our dogs for 'a walk' ;-) to.  No problems, and it was only the dog's 2nd mating (he was a maiden at the first mating two days previously!). A nice litter resulted.

At those reading ovulation just occured and you should be just fine with a single mating on any of those days for natural mating with good male fertility. Good luck !!
