I've done a search but can't find the information i am looking for - what i would like to know is this - how many of the breeders on here vaccinate before the pups go and who don't.

The reason i am asking is because the breeder of ebbie didn't have her vaccinated - mainly because we wanted her at 8 weeks and her vet doesn't vaccinate until 9 weeks, same for my vet, does them at 10 weeks and 12 weeks. Most puppies are collected at 8 weeks (correct me if i am wrong). The reason I am asking is one of my pups is going to a really good friend of mine, she wants her at 8 weeks - hence no vaccination - she is getting her cheaper - a lot cheaper than the other pup, but she keeps mentioning the vaccs. I don't want to be seen to be nasty, and everything else will be done and in order but for what she is paying me - and the cost so far.....am i wrong, should i just do it anyways?

I have only once had a pup which was vaccinated before I got it, and that was added to the price I paid for him. He was slightly older when i got him as the breeder had kept him an extra 10 days for me. I would expect to pay for the vaccination if it was done as I would have had to pay if it wasn't if you see what I mean

thanx cava - yes i do see what u mean, I have just sat down and worked out exactly what this litter has cost me - upto 8 weeks - of course as far as i can average out etc - each pup so far has cost me £365 (litter of 3), i have averaged the food at the mo, but sure i've underestimated, and this does not allow for any extra vet checks, health problems etc. I've included 4 vet checks which also included ebbie's check whilst she was pregnant.

Oh Jakieboy, have you added in the Stud fee, travel to the Stud, her health checks, bedding and puppy rearing wquipment etc etc.

My last litter of pups was only 3, and I just broke even, as the stud dog owner reduced the stud fee by £50 seeing as I had a C section and only 3 pups. This was with a bitch who had already had the health checks done for a previous litter (except eyes), and I already had a lot of the whelping equipment.

If you really looked you will find they will have cost you a lot more, so best not!!! :D

Sorry - didn't make myself clear - yes i did add all them in - each puppy has cost me £365 - so times that by 3 and that's what it's cost me so far - £1100.

When we got Holly last year she was 12.5wks and had had her first vaccination. We asked the breeder if she'd do it for us so that we could get Holly out and about a week earlier than if we got our vet to do it.

Our new puppy will be coming to us at 8wks so won't have had any of her vacinnations. She's booked in to the vets to have her vacinnation with her vet check at 8wks.

We paid extra to have Holly vaccinated by the breeder. If your friend wants her puppy vaccinated then she should pay extra and wait until she's had the jabs before she has the puppy.

my vet vaccinates (1st jab) at 8 weeks and mine are off for their jabs tomorrow so they can go to their new homes saturday. I wouldn' consider letting them go them before 1 jab at least.

I have only vaccinated when I have kept a pup past 10 weeks.

I know that they can with some vacs be started at 8 weeks, but I am still not happy with this due to maternal antibodies. It may be fine, or vital for pups who come from sources where they have been seperated from their Mums early, but mine are bred as part of our family canine and human, and Mum is with them until they go, whenever she wants, and often will still be letting them have a comfort feed.

The pther problem with send ing off part vaccinated pups is that the new owners vetr may be using different products, and some insist on starting them again from scratch, and this I am most unhappy with!

We do first shots here at 7 or 8 weeks, then 4 weeks later and the last 4 weeks later. I always take mine to the vet for their first shots at 7 weeks, and they go to their new parents by 8 weeks. I paid $300 for 1st shots and deworming on 5 pups, and yearly shots and deworming on the mom. Thought that was good.

Since this person is getting a pup for much less, then they should be happy for the price they are paying and not squable over the shots or not. I would make them pay more then if they wanted the first shots. If they get upset then maybe don't sell them one cause it could just cause problems in the future ( just my opinion). Since breeding is not cheap and the price to have a puppy/dog cost money.

Thanx everyone, i thought all this was the case, i just wanted to set my mind at rest that i wasn't being mean, she's getting the pup for almost half price, as i've said already what the pups have cost me - vaccinating is another expense - not that i wouldn't do it - if the pups are still with me after 10 weeks which is when my vets do them. Luckily, my ex is the one arranging the money side - he's already said if it comes to it - they pay more and we will or they can choose not to have the dog. It's upto them then.
