Topic Dog Boards / General / Best dog coats to fit an Irish Setter

I wonder if anyone can help me to find a good waterproof coat to fit an Irish Setter. I have been in two pet shops today, after having to return one equafleece online,  Barbour, when it's the right length is too big in the girth - and the other designs moved around on her hips as she walked in the shop. Probably, moreso when out walking more freely.
Length and slimness of a female Setter is proving difficult - and I want something organic and natural for her as a protector. Any recommendation would be great. Thank you.

My setters have Equafleece coats (as do my Kelpies and my parents lurchers), they should be able to make one to your exact requirements, give them a call they are really nice.

Collarsrus do some really nice reasonably priced made-to measure coats of various types. http://www.collarsrus.co.uk/#/dog-coats/4531880232
Very pleased with the lovely fleece coat I have just had made for my pap.

I was a little uncertain about measuring my dogs at the time so I had Equafleece measure them up at a champ show just to be sure. They fit perfectly.

My Irish has a light waterproof rain jacket designed for greyhounds - similar body shape. I added my own leg straps easily enough so it doesn't slip when she runs (back legs only). I'm not v well at mo so brain not working, but the stretchy material in thin strips like elastic.

Like these 'Waterproof Walking Out Coats'   http://www.greyhoundsuperstore.co.uk/displayprods.asp?qid=126&qdbquery=searchprodbycat&qtitle=Coats

You might need to copy and paste that link!

A 26 inch would fit a 26kg greyhound bitch, quite small, you would probably need at least a 28, maybe a 30inch. Of course without seeing your bitch it is difficult to say exactly!

I recommend Chillydogs.  I've a Vizsla so a fairly similar shape (deep chest) - I have the waterproof mac which is excellent & also the Great White North coat - also fantastic.

http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/Dog-Coats--Clothing/products/53/   These also have a few options. My girl has the Sandown fleece too for when it's cold, made by Weatherbeeta, who make horse rugs too. It is so warm and cosy that I would wear it!!

Timberwolf Extreme Wax Dog Coat already has leg straps and looks a good shape!
