Hi  I had a choice when I asked my vet about Speying .........stiches on the outside or have them done internally with no stiches showing(hope that makes sense)....... I opted for internally she doing ok and things are looking good but it's the first time I have heard of this
Is it  new thing? and is it a better way of doing things, or just choice

Nope not a new thing, whenever we have had bitches spayed they have been stitched internally.

Definitely not, I had my first "invisible mending" done on a Toy Poodle spayed 19 years ago.  My vet does a host of operations using this method.  I feel certain that it does depend on what they are doing.

Should have said,,,   it does depend on how good the stitcher is.  With spays, it was first done to reduce the incidence of dogs removing stitches themselves.  I once had a bitch pull stitches out of her own leg, and it was gross to watch.

If internal stitches are too tight, the pain and irritation will have the dog messing with it.  So it is extremely important that the vet has a good tension to those stitches.

Having personally had an op with these stitches I would advise keeping a really close eye on her when you get to day 5-8 post op because the skin heals faster than the stitches dissolve and it gets really really itchy and stingy for a bit!! However if I had the choice I'd make the same decision as you did.
