I have a male yorkie 3.5lbs & a female yorkie 3lbs ok to breed ?

In short -- No :(
It is best for Yorkies to have a much smaller male than the female. Otherwise you run the risk of too large puppies for the bitch to whelp. They can plug the birth canal and an emergency trip to the vet is necessary for her to survive, let alone the pups.

The question is, since it really sounds as if you have dogs that you are just thinking about breeding and not really planned it out.... If this is just to have a litter of puppies to recoup buying your dog, or you love them so much that you'd like to have 'another', or family/friends are asking for a litter so they can have one --- please do searches on here to consider the risks. IMO, it's just not worth it.

Are you willing to risk your bitch's health and life just to have a litter of puppies that may or may not survive? It's something that all breeders to some extent have to deal with. When dealing with dogs that are very small, the chances increase that the bitch could die right along with her puppies even if one is an experienced breeder.

Could not coment on the size question but would point out that there is a lot more to consider that just the weight of the dogs. Have you checked the background of the two conserned. Jackie

yes I have checked both backgrounds and don't want to lose my dog, but looking for some info on sizes doing all kinds of research first before i do breed. reading everything I can get my hands on Talked to the vet she said they are both in excellent heath hips and knees are fine blood work is all good. I already have formula and hot water bottles and a whelping bed. And willing to take time off of work to be there befor and after pups are born and know that I miht have to hand feed asked the vet to show me how. ( I think I am driving my vet nuts) I just want some breeders opinions or someone who has bred small dogs before . Any info I can get !!!

I take it from your email addy, you're somewhere in Canada :)
I found this reference and contact on the Canadian Kennel Club website. Perhaps it will help you make contact with Yorky breeders in your region.

I remeber an article about the famous Ozmillion Yorkies, that he prefers to breed from decent sized bitches, whichin Yorkies I would imagine would be 5 or 6 pounds, as the standard calls for under 7 pounds. He has established a wonderful line, and has few whelping and breeding difficulties. I don't think the half pound difference in the weights as too much, but the bitch is still only half the maximum weight for the breed, so whelping problems are more of a risk.

What size was her mother, and what does her breeder advise???

I think that with Yorkies, as with Chihauhauhs, it is preferred to breed with a larger bitch, perhaps right up to the breed standard max, and even over, using a small (show sized, not pocket size) dog. I know that Osmans breeding programme is very closely line-bred, with a quite incredible inbred factor. However, he has the most complete knowledge of his own lines, and the results speak for themselves. I dont know any Yorki people who would recomed breeding from a tiny bitch, thr problem is, even though she is a little tot, as is the dog, they are still carrying the genes for normal yorkie size, as they themselves are probably the result of normal sized parents (tiny ones often occur, should never be deliberatly bred for). Your bitch could therefore find herself in real trouble trying to whelp a much too big pup

This reply is quite delayed but I thought it might still help someone. I raise Yorkshire Terriers. I have gotten beautiful, healthy litters from my 5lb female bred to my 5.5lb male. In general you should use a male smaller than your female (within reason). I wouldn't worry about a half pound but your female IMO is much too small to breed. I wouldn't breed a female less than four pounds. Larger than that is preferred. There is no actual tea-cup yorkie acknowledged by the AKC. You simply have very small dogs...dogs that are fragile, prone to health problems and often nothing but a heartbreak waiting to happen. A yorkie should not be a frail nervous little dog. They should be curious, cocky and full of vigor. Please reconsider breeding your 3lb female. Tiny yorkies should NOT be the goal. So many prospective owners seek out these tiny, frail creatures without realizing the health disadvantages these dogs may have...it does not honor the breed at all. A 5-7 pound yorkie should be the goal. Again IMO.
