She does alot of running around in the house with the Boston's. She is starting to get a lil heavy to carry up and down the stairs 34 pounds at 4 months on the 2nd.
We now let her just go up and down the stairs, but she does take at a slow pace.

We did get her chipped which was quick- she had some yummy stuff to eat while my vet put it in- big girl really didn't even notice it- think it hurt my
hubby more so then her lol Just glad I have some ID on her now since I won't be licensing her till she is spayed. They charge more for intact pets.
Plus she is registered with PetLynx :-)

I don't allow my pups to go up the stairs till 6 months old and down till a year old, coming down puts more strain on the body which is still growing and developing, having a breed with a long body it is important that the descent is controlled so as to prevent spinal damage.

The same applies to jumping on and off furniture, I put a large bean bed by the sofa and teach them to go on it as a half way stage.

crikey - does that mean that they have to spend 6 months up there until they are old enough to come down??????

No I carry them down, if it was a breed too big to carry then they wouldn't be allowed up there till a year old.

I do find they muscle up quite quickly after they start climbing the stairs which helps to control them coming down, never had one opt to come down without encouragement at a year old.

LOL, I expect they are carried down :-D

I never allowed Buster to go up the stairs due to trying to protect those growing bones. I'm glad I didn't as he is too big to fit anywhere up stairs now!

stairs are not good for growing babies...and if they slip ....too much pressure on elbows too coming down .We always stairgated for the big hounds....I remember a very  well known vet , who still hip X-rays, saying 4X4's were the downfall for the big breeds , jumping in banging their patellas , jumping out , landing on those elbows..

Its only like 5 steps- she is getting heavy and thats the only way to go outside and potty-- can't have her messing on my deck lol

I do try not to let her climb the stairs in the house- I have baby gates up to keep her from doing so.
Sometimes she knocks them and up she goes- then I carry her lil butt down again, but ya she's heavy.

I am the worlds worst with puppies , no steps , no stairs , no jumping on sofas , beds , etc .I have a regime ,  even stronger since my friends have had life threatening silly accidents with their dogs. And the worst when I booked a beautiful bitch puppy and she ran into a wheelbarrow at her breeders and broke her neck .

When ours went up stairs (they don't now) I've always carried them down 27 & 29 kilos.
