My friend just sent me a link to a video she described as sweet but I thought was just stupid. It was of a boxer puppy on a long line pretty much surrounded by cows. Everyone seems to think its brilliant, why? Cows are so unpredictable around dogs and don't we hear about dog walkers getting trampled by them and often killed nearly every year?
I've been chased by cows it was very frightening, the pups owner and the pup were pretty lucky I think.

That is EXTREMELY stupid. Cows are very dangerous around dogs. We see it all the time here. When there are cows in our nearest field (really close to our house), we walk past them on pretty much a daily basis. If the cows are on the other end of the field, they will RUN as fast as they can to get to the gate when they see dogs. Then they all stand and stare and stare at them, kicking their feet and snorting, and gosh they do look scary. If you walk past WITHOUT a dog, they ignore you and stay put. In fact they sometimes ignore a big dog, but the little dogs and pups really gets their interest, and it is not in a friendly way.

I have just posted about this on a lab rescue site as haven't seen the video but from what you describe it is just such a stupid thing to do .

Is it an age thing? There are things I MAY have found mildly amusing when I was younger that I now ( at the grand old age of 49 and three quaters!) am horrified by and immediately see the danger or stupidity in it. I have often wondered if I worry too much about things as mostly it turns out fine but it is getting more obvious as I age. Maybe with age comes wisdom??

Being raised on a farm with cattle this is immensly stupid from what you say. My family have dogs which are pretty savvy around cattle, however they have got in the way and been trod on in the past. My dogs, well I stay out of the field they are in, for some reason black cattle are attracted to my black dogs!!

I just went to find it, must admit the cows look curious rather than threatening, but it's not something I would ever risk, I've heard too many stories of cows trampling people and dogs.
