Put him/her on lead and leave in a down stay in the same room as you if possible.  If they will not stay down then make some tea, grab a good DVD, give yourself time off the housework and go and flake out together under a blanket in front of the TV :)

Some dogs simply won't settle if in pain unless they are hanging out with you - just give in (if you can)

You can get things similar to something humans would use for a sprain. A gel or cream that can be massaged in , they are herbal and usually contain menthol, the only one that I can think of is Trainers Choice, don't know if they still make it, but I used to work with greyhounds and no greyhound kennel would ever be without it!

This may soothe and also help to heal the shoulder quicker.

Why not let them sleep in their normal bed?

This link has the liniments I mentioned

But to anyone looking at this page, be very careful if looking at the B-R Bone Embrocation, as it is very strong and I wouldn't recommend using it without consulting someone who has already tried it.

Well who'd have believed it ! I was just saying to a friend that it's a shame you can't get Ralgex for dogs, seems you can after all ! that stuff might just be the ticket from my friends rickety oldie.
