Hi im a a newcomer to this site my westie has just started giving birth she's had a little boy at 8.20pm mother and son are now fine, thought id lost him mom was shocked and wouldn't entertain him at first but now she wont leave him alone. The question i would like to ask is how do you know when the birth is over their are no signs of her having anymore, just the one little cherub whome is adorable, mum has now gone to sleep with her little bundle though after two sleepless nights my baby deserves a rest bless her, im still doing 24hour watch tonight though.
just in case. Any advice would be helpfull thanks.

the fact that she has settled down is a very good sign that everything is ok. It doesn't hurt to have a vet check her over straight after you think she has finished just to make sure, especially if you think there might be some afterbirth left behind. As she only had one pup and Westies don't often have very big litters I should think you are quite safe.
Have fun. Just watch the pup doesn't get too fat with all that milk and make sure he feeds from each nipple and watch for mastitis.
