Topic Dog Boards / General / Charity that fosters dogs for women who go into refuges
- By ClaireyS Date 10.01.12 22:44 UTC
Hi all, I have a friend in a bit of a situation, she is homeless with her dogs and cant find anywhere that will take them.  She is able to go into a refuge but the dogs cant go with her.   I cant have them as one isnt keen on other dogs (both are rescues) Im sure I read somewhere that there is a charity who takes dogs in situations such as these ?

Can anyone shed some light ?

It happened to me about twelve years ago. It absolutely broke my heart to part with my two dogs. They both went to specific breed rescues. I wouldn't want anyone else to go through it. I hope your friend gets it sorted.

The Dogstrust run this scheme but I think it only exists in some areas of the country.

There was a poster on here a couple of years ago that I gave details of this scheme to. Her dogs were fostered for her under this scheme and when I contacted her last year she was in the position of just about being able to have her dogs back with her as she embarked on a new stage of her life without fear of domestic violence and with her two dogs about to be returned to her.

Her strength of character throughout the dreadful situation she found herself in was awe inspiring - one very courageous lady who didn't realise just how strong she could be.

Also some rescues do undertake fostering to give back rather than foster to then to rehome so well worth asking if the dogs are pure bred or crosses maybe :-)

I would suggest if the person does have chance to help a little bit on costs for the up keep then it would make it even more likely that a rescue may help.

You may also find that if you contact the breed rescue and explain the situation that they may find a solution to this too. Worth a shot depending on breed..

They are both rescues from the dogs trust.  I have found them a temporary place with a friend who does rescue until she is sorted, hopefully it wont be too long.

thanks for all your help :)
