Does anyone have any suggestions on a good Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla book ?

I'm looking into this breed as a possibility for myself ( not for a good while yet ) despite trawling the net and reading many breeders web sites, I've yet to find the sort of in depth info I'm looking for. I don't want to phone and bother breeders yet as I'm still at the undecided stage and wouldn't be seriously looking for some time, although I will be hunting them out at any dog shows I go to this year.

Have you sent a PM to Wirelincs?  I'd say she'd be a good bet.. Dogs a babe is also the other person on here with them, I know these is another but can't recall their username...

How lovely! I have them on my secret dog family list (the list that will come into play the minute we win a fortune on the lottery and can buy an infinite number of dogs because the grounds are so vast they can run free with at least 100 welsh...yeah) and the ones I've met are real characters.

Hi

I'm another HWV owner - I have sisters to DAB's boys (and the mum of one of them).

Can't recommend Wirelincs highly enough :-)

There isn't one - apart from the emails we owners write to each other about how marvellous our dogs are!!  Mine, of course, are quite perfect...   or maybe that's just me :)

Just ping me random questions via PM if you like

My boys are both currently upside down 'willy to the wind' in their usual evening positions - they've been like that since 8.30pm and don't look to be moving any time soon

PS hello wire peeps, fancy meeting you here :O  I'll second the recommendation for Wirelincs (Hi D)

Funny my Dobe owning friend (has had 7 so far over 20 years, with as many as 4 at any one time) has always fancied one.

Her current last Dobe is 11 with Skin cancer that is steadily metastasising around her body.

Not to worry Suejaw, although I visit champdogs daily, I don't always sign in - so sometimes have difficulty remembering my username myself :-)

Me too! I will have Maltese with a kennel maid to do all the carding each day. And I will have one of each of the spaniel & setter breeds too! :-D

LucyDogs...only one?
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 12.01.12 10:19 UTC
Well, there's quite a few spaniel & setter breeds, I figured I'd better just have one of each. Oh, and I'll have a Brittany and a Kooikerhundje too. And a Toller. :-D

Gay Gottlieb's book (The Hungarian Vizsla) is very recently back in print.  But I don't know how much it devotes to the wire. It's a good book on the history and versatility of the breed though.  About £30 I think.

There is a small section devoted to the Wire, although its well out of date now re imports. Most of what applies to the HV also applies to the HWV with a few subtle variations for the Wire.

The only book I've seen is the one written by Roy Bebbington. If you google 'Gonegos' you'll find his site. I don't have the book, but have been tempted to order one, as I have an hwv puppy. It seems to be mainly about their use as working dogs.

I saw both books on Amazon, I think I'll start with the Bebbington book to get a feel for life with a Wire.

Many thanks for all the help
