I've heard people mention giving their dogs cheese asa treat ?
How much is ok to feed - a titbit only ?
Can a pup digest cheese

Titbit only - for my Dobes I use bits approximately the size of my little finger-nail and not too many, after seeing a pup fed on little but cheese which ruined its legs within a couple of weeks (they bent, literally)

out of interest can I ask why the cheese caused problems for the puppy. My girl loves cheese as a very special treat in her kong, maybe 1cm grated.

Cheese is about the only thing my mal will "show" for.

oh dear, didnt know that cheese could cause problems, my friend in rotties, used cheese spread by the potful, when training her puppies, never connected anything to do with the cheese, but she has had all sorts of problems over the years, makes you wonder...luckily my breed are not baited, otherwise I may have followed suit.

I feed our bitches, once over 7 weeks in whelp, scrambled eggs with cheese for one of their meals each day and continue to do so until the pups are weaned.
When I wean the pups one of their daily meals is scambled eggs with cheese too.
Have never had any problems with the puppies but then of course the cheese is not given in huge amounts.

Ella will do almost anything for cheese , its mainly her grooming treat ( tiny pieces ) she even recognises the word now.If she dosent come when we call her name we add " cheese " to the cal ... works everytime !

HI

I have given my dogs cheese in the past they love it. I can't see why it could cause any effects with bone growth after all cheese is made of milk which is full of calcium and calcium is good for bones and growth...

One reason I have stopped giving it now though is because one dog is now allergic to dairy products so that's the only reason I've given it up.

I also give mine small pieces of cheese as a treat, not found any problems so far though.

I always give my dog American cheese -- he loves it smeared inside a steralized bone. Was reccommended to us by our trainer.

Lel,
I think it might be processed soft cheese, what I call skooshy cheese comes in a tube very handy for filling kongs and can also be used straight from tube for rewards. But I may be wrong

It's 'fake' cheese  :) Some comes in a tube/can like Anne says. Others come pre-sliced which each is wrapped in plastic. It's thin and tearable. But it's almost like jello  Well, except it usually being yellow orange color ;)
Tastes bland unless you get the 'sharp cheddar' type...which isn't sharp and isn't cheddar...but at least has flavor :P :D I Have to say that dogs do usually love it

I'm confused -- what you do call the cheese that is used to make grilled cheese sandwiches and the like? Just out of curiousity!
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 18.01.03 21:36 UTC
Cheddar!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 18.01.03 21:54 UTC
Processed cheese, but most would use real cheese!

i add 2oz of cottage cheese to the feed 2x per week the dogs love it and it is the healthy option in cheese.
