Has anyone come across one before?

I was going over one of my pups last night and grooming when I came to their beard and combed through one side, turned the other...and there was a large pussy mound! It was about as large as a pea, possibly a little smaller, and right in the bed of whiskers. A couple of weeks before I had been concerned as the pup had two whiskers growing out of the same follicle; I left alone but last night when I was cleaning this spot up I saw the two whiskers at the base, which actually fell off in my finger tips as I tried to move them out of the way. Could this have been why this mound appeared? It was pus filled and has since gone down though is still there.

We're going to the vets tomorrow anyway for second vaccinations, but any help would be much appreciated. I have a bearded breed, very fluffy beard, which is why I hadn't noticed this before. Now I'll be checking religiously!

My lab had that as a puppy (and usually when she was due in season too?) we had anti biotics (bloody expensive ones too) and iodine solution to dilute and use to wash the area. Now i just use salt water if i can see a flare up coming.

When I had Bullmastiffs this was a regular occurrence during the puppy and teen phases, a bit like acne, and always in the chin/chops area.

Glad this isn't an uncommon occurance as I was quite frightened when I first saw it!

Follicular/sebaceous cysts, very common in my breed, also GSD's, Old English etc, though usually on the body.

my bitch had one on her back at the base of her tail. it grew to the size of a plum, before draining and refilling serveral times and the it just dissapeard.

it was checked sever times and she was given antibiotics to be sure, i think this is what help it burst and clear out once and for all.

I've never seen one before, it's gone down and is firm now, about the size of half a pea now. The vet will give a prognosis tomorrow, but in the mean time I'll look up cysts.

Never seen them on the body either, hope I don't in the future if I'm honest! My breed is Miniature Schnauzer, they aren't a working breed or herders or anything.

If your vet confirms a sebacious cyst, I am confident that you will have no trouble learning to empty them yourself.

Saw the vet this morning, she said it was just acne; so probably a blocked gland? I know comedone syndrome is common in Schnauzers and having dealt with it with my boy, but they're usually small black heads found on his back and thighs, never on his beard, so not sure if it's that.

Jean, I can pluck ears, empty anal glands, and generally do all the gross things for my dogs, but emptying cysts...?! *puts pate on toast down*
