Everyone's been so clever about finding stuff I want that I thought I'd try it again! I'm taking Mum off to Iceland in a couple of weeks, and she has trouble standing for long periods of time, so I wanted to find her some sort of portable seat / chair to have with us on the excursions so she can sit. I think those pole-like shooting sticks might not be big enough or stable enough, I'd like something that will stand up without the person's legs having to support the pole. But I'd also like it to be lightweight and folding up small enough to put into a rucksack when she doesn't need it. It'll also have to go in an airplane presumably in a suitcase. I'm not really sure what I want so I'm having trouble googling - any ideas?

Perhaps something like this?? http://www.google.co.uk/products/catalog?hl=en&q=folding+stool+camping&gs_upl=3260l4644l0l7150l13l8l0l2l2l1l301l1780l0.3.4.1l9l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&biw=1366&bih=592&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=12564965874429696722&sa=X&ei=ZsMAT5_UA4ei8QOx4qWxAQ&ved=0CHAQ8wIwAQ

How are Mums knees, some of the stools like the one you have found are very low and I could not get on and off one but I can manage a shooting stick.

Knees are ok I think, it's just the effort of standing for a long time, the cancer is affecting the blood vessels round her lungs, liver & pancreas so she gets short of breath if she has to stand. Walking seems to be ok to some extent, it's mainly standing still. And she can't breathe properly to sing in her choir anymore without sitting down, which annoys her no end!

The stool you have picked is only 15 inches off the floor and to me would be too low for someone with breathing problems to get off, depending on her height her knees may be higher than her bum, there were other ones at the bottom of the page which may be higher and look more stable.

That's OK then, I just know I can't sit on a low stool - well I can but I can't then stand up but if your Mum can stoop down then the little tri stool may be OK although they are not that comfortable and an aluminium camping chair would weigh no more and be much more comfortable.

Would one of these; http://www.gamebird.co.uk/acatalog/Folding_Seats.html  help?

Jeff.

The 3 corner one in the link above is height adjustable but is expensive.

Now they do look much more use, I like the second one down, reasonable seating area so safe, aluminium so light, and a walking aid when closed. Yes, much better for anyone with a health problem

I like these Walkstools - made in Sweden.  Expensive but worth it for safety and ease of carrying.  I'd imagine you could sell it on pretty easily when you get back too!

Have a great holiday :)

They do look nice but all rather out of our price range tbh for a 3 day break, though I take the point about possibly selling on. I'll see what she says about the cheap one being so low, if she doesn't like the idea we'll just borrow my Dad's shooting stick I guess.
