Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Tibetan Spaniels
- By tigran [gb] Date 27.12.11 21:03 UTC
I have already posted on missing dogs. But just wanted to bring this to more peoples attention. 6 Tibetan Spaniels were stolen from a breeder/exhibitor in Didcot, 1 is a ch. male. They are all microchipped. A silver car with 4 men was seen leaving the property. On fb there is a strong group publicising this. So just wanted to warn people in general to be aware that there are some nasty people about, keep your dogs safe........... Realise this is prob in breach of posting rules, but feel so sorry for all concerned as know how devastated Iwould be, if any of mine were stolen.
Thanks for reading.

Sadly this sounds like the same car that has been warned about on Dogwatch.
It has been suspected of involvement in other cases of dogs being stolen in the Thames Valley area.
- By tigran [gb] Date 27.12.11 21:20 UTC
Many thanks for that information.
- By Boxacrazy [gb] Date 27.12.11 21:22 UTC
This car was previously sited in thefts of gun dogs primarily
Hambleden (nr Henley-on-Thames)
nr Bradfield (nr Reading)
are two that I can remember off the top of my head.

They need to contact Dog Watch
When reporting a dog related crime on 999 or 101, the message will automatically be relayed to headquarters at Kidlington and a relevant communication will be "cascaded" to all interested parties including: Police Area Beat Officers; Dog Wardens; Re-homing Centres etc, as well as our own members.

If it is a theft or suspicious activity that might be related to dog theft, tell the operator: "please link this incident to the Countrywatch Ringmaster System". If you prefer to remain anonymous call crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Many many thanks, have crossposted on fb. I am so worried for these little dogs as I have one and the thought of anything like this happening is just so horrible.
- By penfold [gb] Date 27.12.11 22:08 UTC
Very worrying indeed.  Hope they manage to get them back, and soon!

Had a little read through the Dogwatch site.  Intesting reading, looks like it is doing a good job highlighting crime in that area, good idea.

Just an update. The 9 year old bitch bolted and returned home, but the other 5 are still missing. Please keep your eyes and ears open for any 'new dogs' appearing in your area. Many thanks.

It is all over FB and also the dog papers.

I was thinking it would be worth maybe putting ad's in the free papers and online to say that these have been stolen, try and reach the wider 'pet' audience..Maybe you could pass that idea onto the distraught owners x
- By tigran [gb] Date 28.12.11 13:29 UTC
Yes thats a good idea, will pass it on. We are hoping that all the publicity will result in a safe return.
- By tigran [gb] Date 28.12.11 14:30 UTC
Just heard that1 of them has been found by the Police at a Travellers site in Tadley nr Basingstoke.!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 28.12.11 16:55 UTC
they could be passed off as Pekingese to the general public, as not that may would be familiar with tibbies.
- By tigran [gb] Date 28.12.11 19:02 UTC

The Daily Mail running the story tomorrow. Come home safely little Tibbies.....
- By tigran [gb] Date 29.12.11 19:22 UTC
Not tomorrow now, probably later in the week....!
- By tigran [gb] Date 30.12.11 12:23 UTC
There is now a reward being offered. In the meantime can I please ask people to keep a watch out for these little dogs. Perhaps you have heard dogs barking or lots of activity, anything out of the usual in your area as they could be anywhere. Please keep looking as we need to get them back home safely. You can pm me and I will pass anything on to the owners.
Many thanks for reading this.

- By tigran [gb] Date 02.01.12 12:53 UTC
These 3 little dogs are still missing. Can I ask everyone to be on the lookout for "new" dogs turning up in their neighbourhood. And also to consider joining the facebook group for Missing Tibetan Spaniels and then printing and putting up posters as they could be anywhere.!.
Please please help.
Thank you
Anna

- By LJS Date 06.01.12 20:22 UTC
So where we're they found ? Let's hope the last one is reunited with them soon
- By tigran [gb] Date 06.01.12 20:42 UTC
Well the owners collected them from Newbury Police Station, but the police are being "cagey" with any more info. However the 2 that were returned were hungry, thirsty and dirty and are having a bath at the moment..
- By dorcas0161 [gb] Date 06.01.12 20:43 UTC
Great news lets hope the other one is home soon.
- By LJS Date 06.01.12 20:49 UTC
Assume then some travellers site in between Oxon and Newbury.

I wonder if they were too hot to handle and they were handed back maybe.
- By tigran [gb] Date 06.01.12 20:56 UTC
Looks like it.......
- By sal Date 07.01.12 09:21 UTC
good news............. lets pray that the one remaining  one is found safe and well. Can't imagine what the poor owners are going through xx
- By Brainless [gb] Date 24.01.12 18:24 UTC
Just seen on Facebook that the last one is on it;'s way home.  It had been sold to someone, escaped and ended up with a prolapsed eye, the Vet nurse scanned it, and found it's chip identifying it as one of the stolen dogs.
- By LJS Date 24.01.12 18:37 UTC
Great news :-)
- By Sawheaties [gb] Date 24.01.12 19:12 UTC
I was on the site when the news came in and you could almost feel the sigh of relief and joy. The leaders of the group have done a fantastic job in marshalling people into action- it just shows when things get tough dog people come up trumps. I think we all relate to how awful we might feel if it were to happen to us. I bet there is a huge celebration going on tonight; this must give hope to others who have lost thier canine friends.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 24.01.12 20:27 UTC
Oh that's wonderful! Sorry about the eye though - will she / has she lost it, or can they get it back in?
- By sal Date 25.01.12 08:13 UTC
pat on the back to the veterinary nurse who check for a microchip x
- By tigran [gb] Date 25.01.12 11:57 UTC
Agree, huge pat on the back for the vet nurse, so many vets do not scan. On the other hand it does put them in an awkward position as if they scan they can hardly impound the dog as not belonging to the person who brought it in, they are not the police. Think we could do with some law changes....

Regarding the eye, apparently it has been sown shut so it is too early to know whether it can be saved.
Many years ago when I was a vet nurse we would routinely have pekes brought in with 1 eye hanging out and as long as it was put back quickly they would be O.K. However nowadays think that this rarely happens due to the change in breed standards.
