My Bull Mastiff bitch is just one year old, but has now collapsed tree times since July this year in a kind of seizure. Her back legs seem to stiffen, then she falls to the floor and finds breathing hard. This lasts for about 1-2 mins. The first time I took her straight to the vets, where they examined her and took a blood test. The results showed that she is a healthy dog, and they could not find a problem. Has anyone heard of anything similar in this breed? I would be extremely thankful of any help or advise.

It is my understanding that Epileptic dogs can only be diagnosed when they are actually having a fit and are connected to the (brain reading equipment whos name escapes me). Think it is usual for vets to take a stab at the cause of the fit and proscribe drugs to see if they work as it is difficult to get a conformation of the cause of the fit. Jackie

Guest it sounds a bit like a mild heart attack to me . I suggest you get her heart checked .
Giant breeds have lots of heart related problems some serious some mild .
A dog with a heart problem can go on to live a normal life on medication.
Same applies to epilepsy once on medication they lead a normal life as well .

I have a Tibetan mastiff and I found out on sunday, that the swiss t.m. club have put a motion out to ban the breeding of pups from my bitches father, and a few others in the t.m. stud dogs on the grounds that the occurance of epilepsy have greatly multiplied and the cause is said to come from these dogs. Does any one know of heriditory epilepsy I emailed the proposer of this motion in switzerland last sunday to ask on what evidence this proposal was made,as if the evidence was available and stood up, in my vets opinion, I would have my bitch spayed, but as yet has had no reply. I know this sounds long winded but does anyone have expierence of this,
.
