My daughters nearly 10 year old GSD has CDRM or DM as its now called .
In the last 24 hours he has gone from still being able to get up on his own ,& walk (with a deffo sway ) to not being able to rise on his own .he can not take his own weight just goes down.He is on trocoxil for his arthritis ,hes not due one for 10 days .
Will getting more for him be any good or is this just prolonging the agony .
Thanking you for any advice please .

I think if he is not able to get up on his own then I know what I would do.

It is hard but when a dogs dignity goes if they are not able to do things for themselves then you have to decide what is best for the dog no matter how hard it is for you.

I am so sorry for you. I had the same decision to make in March with my gsd as she could no longer walk without falling over, and some days she could not get off her bed. We exhausted all medicines and treatments but decided that she had no quality of life so we had no choice. Even though I regret losing her every hour of every day I know I did the right thing for her and know that the awful decision was made because of my love for her even though painful for me.

I am so sorry but I think if he were mine I would let him go. I have always said when they go off their legs its the end of the line. Many yrs ago a friend had a cross rottie,he was a huge dog and when he could no longer stand it was awful watching him drag himself around,he had pressure sores and was generally miserable although my friend spent every minute of the day trying her best to keep him comfy. It was a huge relief when she finally came to her senses and had him pts.

I think a chat with your vet on what they think as to whether medication is going to improve things for the boy, if not then you have you seriously have to look at his quality of life and as it stands right now and continues the same then really for his sake there is no option or choice.. So sorry that you're having to go through this around this time of year, doesn't make it any easier does it? :-( xx
