Has anyone seen any nice comfy dog beds, at a reasonable price ? I need two large size and a medium, would like something that is washable, and has good sturdy sides, but plenty of padding. For inside use only, but they go in my bedroom so need to look nice.
- By Pedlee Date 18.12.11 15:37 UTC
Not the cheapest, but Tuffies nests are brilliant if you've got dogs that like to curl up (http://www.tuffies.co.uk/dog-beds.asp#nests). I've tried soooo many dog beds and these are by far the best. Most of the cheaper beds tend to "flatten" and loose all their bounce, the Tuffies don't.
- By sillysue Date 18.12.11 15:47 UTC
I have the Timberwolf Domino and have found them to be good, they are the ones used in the bedroom http://www.animeddirect.co.uk/dogs/bedding. However
I have more waterproof ones like Tuffies in the lounge where they are more likely to use them after a walk.
- By STARRYEYES Date 18.12.11 16:52 UTC
talking of beds need some new ones for my older dogs... saw these at LKA they do look fab but very expensive.. the size I would want would cost £95... http://www.cozies.net/
- By frenchfry [je] Date 18.12.11 17:07 UTC
I haven't bought any yet but I have my eye on these http://www.doghealth.co.uk/collections/bedding-liners/products/waterproof-bed

Have a look on E bay at Zippy beds, I got a large one a few weeks ago for £35, it's bright red and waterproof.
- By dorcas0161 [gb] Date 19.12.11 00:46 UTC
Thanks for all the replies I will have a look at the links. When you have three to buy for it can work out quite expensive. Non are destructive so don't need to be chew proof, but the medium one is for an 11 year old and she likes plenty of support. She snores really loud !!! LOL.
- By sillysue Date 19.12.11 08:30 UTC

I got a great memory foam dog bed for my oldie gsd from Ebay, she really appreciated the support. She was unable to push herself off a normal fluffy bed  but with the memory foam she had no probs.

I got one of these recently but the bottom cushion has already flattened, and this is a "bedroom" bed that doesn't get used during the day.

Spuds is a bedroom one too, his is fine so far, although he has another bed and two human beds to choose from too, so perhaps doesn't use it as much, I'll be very disappointed if it does go flat.
- By Pedlee Date 19.12.11 14:33 UTC
For the money I don't think it's too bad to be honest, but it certainly doesn't compare to the Tuffie.
- By Lacy Date 19.12.11 18:33 UTC
If you can sew (I can't but OH can!) the best dog beds are ones we made ourselves, and have been through a few. Bought a thick, double memory foam topper off eBay (£36.00) & cut it to fit their baskets, there was enough for four beds. Covered it in waterproof fabric, then a cotton case and finally cover with a towel which is changed & washed as required. The dogs have really taken to them, easy to keep clean and got four mattresses for the price of one.
- By Lumie [gb] Date 19.12.11 18:54 UTC
Lola has a plastic bed with blankets, this meets her needs. She can nest, hide bones and I can wash the blankets. Leaves hardly any trace of puppy teething.

Now Sir Douglas 6.5 years old has a memory foam king size bed with with mattress protector (for his allergies). A sprung Double Divan with memory foam pillows. If allowed I can squeeze in from time to time (if he is residing on the sofa).

Hi Lacy I have PM'd you.
- By dogs a babe Date 22.12.11 13:22 UTC
I like Tuffies the best and you can get covers to fit them if you wish - I've bought spare covers from Orvis for mine and I've used a fitted cot mattress in the past too.

We also have an Orvis factory/seconds shop near us and their memory foam beds are lovely...
- By LouiseDDB [gb] Date 22.12.11 17:42 UTC
I would like to get mine tuffies but they are expensive. I like the look of those yoxfords. Spent a good amount of money on zippy beds and they were soon flat soon. Ripped open and soon binned
- By tadog [gb] Date 22.12.11 18:25 UTC

I think this is where Tuffies really score - they outlast, and out perform a lot of other beds and ultimately save you money.  An investment purchase!!

I buy at Crufts to save myself postage - although carrying them is a faff.  I now have 8 Tuffies between 3 dogs.  I use them with fleeces in their crates and have covers for the ones in the living rooms.  I also keep a spare Tuffie under the sofa for visiting dogs or if one of mine is feeling poorly and wants to sleep closer to the fire.

I have a minor dog bed fetish methinks... :)

Hi Frenchfry,

I can really recommend Dog Health, they are really helpful and deliveries I have had have always been very quick. I drove up to their warehouse today to look at crates and they put them up for me and helped me shuffle them around to make sure I maximised the space. Very helpful, nice to find these days!!

Only thing is, I have these waterproof beds and I get them for about £20 from a local market!
- By JoFlatcoat (Moderator) [gb] Date 23.12.11 12:25 UTC
I've just bough 5 very tough XL waterproof dog beds from Ebay, after having just one as a sample.    They cost around £20 each, and certainly at the moment I'm delighted.   Made double sure that the filling was NOT that awful synthetic fibre that killed two of our beloved dogs the other year - they are filled with foam chips.    Dogs love them.    From a firm in Stockport, with first rate service.        Don't know that I can advertise any more on here!!!!!

I'm sure it's ok to post a link or say the sellers name for those of us that are dog-bed-a-holics, it's not like you're selling them :-)
- By JoFlatcoat (Moderator) [gb] Date 23.12.11 19:09 UTC
OK - they go by the name of 'lotsofbusybees' on EBAY

Would be very intersted in the details, as Stockport is not very far away from me, so could save on postage and collect myself, I am only a couple of exits off the M60 Motorway away from Stockport.

Thanks very much will try and find them.
- By chaumsong Date 24.12.11 01:40 UTC
Thanks Jo, I recognised the name and have two of their beds already, they are brilliant for the car :-)
- By Boxacrazy [gb] Date 24.12.11 06:39 UTC
I think that personal reccommendation counts for alot.

It's good to know that someone else has got/used the item and how it has performed.
Afterall when you count your pennies these days you don't want to waste them.

:) May be tempted too...:)

I've got a couple of van cage waterproof beds from J & M Pets : http://www.jandmpetbeds.co.uk/index.php?cat=10-19&product_id=584

Had them just over 2 years, very pleased.
- By chevali [gb] Date 14.01.12 15:19 UTC
Hi,
Please tell me that you didn't buy any tuffies dog bed. If you are lucky you may be fortunate to have a good one. I know what can and does go in them.
- By chevali [gb] Date 14.01.12 15:25 UTC
The Tuffies idea is sound. Shame that some of them are not what you think inside!!!!!!
- By frenzy [gb] Date 14.01.12 15:38 UTC

Ask trading standards in Scotland.!!!!!!
- By klb [gb] Date 14.01.12 16:20 UTC
I have just repaced my tuffies which are used in the kennels. Last ones lasted well over 10yrs and have been hosed off and dried countless times. Repaced as cover worn and starting to split but after 10yrs feel have been good value .  Intrigued as to issues with filling ??????

- By chevali [gb] Date 14.01.12 16:32 UTC
When tuffies started about 8-9 years ago the stuffings were fine. You were one of the lucky ones. About 4-5 years ago and recently, inferior, less than hygenic inners were/are used. Pics were posted on Facebook and are now with trading standards. The fabric breathes and any nastiness inside will seep through!!!!
- By Pedlee Date 14.01.12 16:35 UTC

> Intrigued as to issues with filling ??????

Likewise. The 2 Tuffies I have are very good quality (1 nest, 1 wipe clean). I see the poster bringing up the supposed problem has also mentioned it on another Champdogs thread.
- By Pedlee Date 14.01.12 16:38 UTC
My Tuffies are no more than a couple of years old and I've yet to experience any problems....
- By chevali [gb] Date 14.01.12 16:43 UTC
You probably have a good batch.... Lucky you. If you ever think there may be a problem, open it up, you might not like what you see!!!!!
- By dorcas0161 [gb] Date 14.01.12 16:50 UTC
I am still looking, decided to wait till Manchester or even possibly Crufts so I can have a look and feel of them. Thanks for all the replies, I wanted the nest type beds that they can curl up with. I have bought a couple of quilts and cheap covers from the local market and folded them and put them inside their old beds for now and decided to save up for something better.
The ones I liked on the internet were working out at £150+ plus delivery, for three, and I felt if I was going to lay out that sort of money I wanted to be able to have a good look at them first. Some reviews on beds said they had flimsy mesh bottoms and as one of mine likes to dig a bit before she settles down, I wanted a bed that would stand up to a bit of her getting comfy !!!
- By ginjaninja [gb] Date 14.01.12 17:21 UTC
Yes - they do seem to have a flimsy material bottom.  But I wouldn't worry about it as the cushion pad which fits into the nest provides plenty of cushioning & lots of digging fun too.  We use the nest for the back of the car - but haul it out when we are staying somewhere.  The nest has put up with this treatment for over 2 years now & looks as good as new.  I like the fact that the nest goes all the way round and stops drafts.

My Vizsla is in a crate at night & I was very worried she'd be cold and so I tried really really hard to find a high-sided bed designed to fit in a crate.  There was almost nothing.  I did use a Danish bed for a while - but it arrived squashed & never really had any substance.  So I bought a fleecy stand up oval bed which fits fine into my rectangular crate - I bought an additional memory foam mattress which she loves.  Then I cover the crate.  But I do wonder why no one makes cozy beds designed to fit into crates . . .
- By jackbox Date 14.01.12 17:37 UTC
, you might not like what you see!!!

Why not just tell us???

I have them, and can find any problems.
- By dogs a babe Date 14.01.12 18:05 UTC
Chevali - did you join just to moan about Tuffies?

I've been buying them for years, and have opened two up and had them re stitched when I wanted to resize one, and reduce the loft in another.  I've seen no problems whatsoever.  Additionally  I've always received excellent customer service when asking them for custom sizes or for information about bulk postage

I don't mind reading legitimate feedback about quality but I don't think it appropriate to join a new forum purely to leave negative comments about another companies products.  If you're planning on sticking around perhaps you could explain who you are and what your personal experience has been.
- By dorcas0161 [gb] Date 14.01.12 18:41 UTC
Thanks ginjani, the only problem with flimsy bottoms is that a large dog can shred it in minutes, and then you are left with a padded ring and a cushion, that don't quite fit together !! In the past I have spent ages trying to sew or patch up bed bottoms, and if it is that mesh stuff it is not that easy. I have cushion pads for the back of the car, but the dogs have a bed each in my bedroom. They don't look so bad with the quilts and covers in and they have a fleece each to go over the top, madams does tend to end up in a lump though !!
- By Nova Date 14.01.12 19:12 UTC
Another vote for Tuffies, had them for years, never had a problem, always had good service and I have no intention of buying anything else.
- By Zan [gb] Date 14.01.12 19:15 UTC
Chevali-- please don't give us this nudge nudge wink wink innuendo about Tuffie beds. If you have had a bad personal experience just tell us about it, so we know the facts and can make our own minds up--behaving as you are comes across as someone with an axe to grind rather than a legitimate criticism. I have just bought two waterproof Tuffie beds and fleece covers for my car, and would be interested to know if there is a problem I should be looking out for.
My two GSDs are delighted with them :-), and they appear to me to be the best mattress type beds I have ever seen.
- By itsadogslife [gb] Date 14.01.12 22:09 UTC
I invested in 2 Tuffies last year and must say they're the best beds I've ever purchased! The dogs don't chew them, and after over a year of use, are hardly worn at all. I can see them lasting for years to come.

Very happy Tuffies customer here & would not hesitate to recommend to someone looking for a good quality bed.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 14.01.12 22:11 UTC

>If you ever think there may be a problem, open it up, you might not like what you see!!!!!

You're going to have to explain further, please. What is the problem with them, exactly?
- By Celli [gb] Date 14.01.12 23:19 UTC

Absolutely agree, I have one bought recently and would appreciate some useful info rather than all this beating around the bush milarky .

>If you ever think there may be a problem, open it up, you might not like what you see!!!!!

My tuffies must be 5 or 6 years old now, I've no intention of ruining them by cutting them open to look inside!

Tuffies have a very well deserved good reputation and (until now) I hadn't heard a single complaint about them and I know lots of people that have bought them.

Could you perhaps back up your accusations, I would like to think you could as you may be losing tuffies a lot of business :-(
- By Celli [gb] Date 15.01.12 11:14 UTC
I googled for ages last night looking for some info on these accusations but drew a blank.

Perhaps Tuffies themselves would know, I'm sure they'd want to clear up any worries about their product.
- By luise [eu] Date 15.01.12 11:55 UTC
Good day. This is Luise, owner of Tuffies:
By 99% we know who "Chevali" is. It is indeed a person with an axe to grind against us due to being CAUGHT OUT  in July last year for posting similar UNFOUNDED defamatory remarks. This person has also got strong connections to an extreme right wing, similarly minded, individual. An assault incident, August 2011, is logged with the police.
We have gathered solid proof of the July defamation and if this continues, court will be involved.
As for Trading Standards and Environmental health of the Tuffies products: we welcomed warmly the TS and EH visits, which checked our products with a FINE TOOTH COMB. The official remarked afterwards: "You have ticked every single box of statutory duties and you have done far more for your products and for your staff than is required by law. We have absolutely no problem with your products and your company and wish more companies complied so well. Pass with flying colours, we wish you all the best".
At Tuffies we work hard to make the best dog beds and to provide a five star customer care. Also, I am so proud to have, now, a tremendously loyal, proud, engaged and hard working work force. To the poster, who tried to Google the accusations: of course you can't find any support for this because there is no problem.
Can I also thank the many forum writers for taking the time to see through this slander and come to our defence. And thank you to the kind people who emailed us last night to alert of this.
Thank you.
