My friends golden retriever picked up a empty tin of corned beef when out on daily walk{left by a fisherman}she cut her mouth badly and was put on antibiotics,my friend took her dog to rspca vet a few weeks later as nasty swelling appeared,vet said this could not be removed,over the weeks this has gone worse so she took her to usual vet who removed this what looked like a tumour,biopsy was taken it is benign,vet said he hopes that he got it all out,however he wants xrays of her jaw to see if it has spread,if so he said steroids would be given,poor girl,she is a beautiful dog aged 9 years,fingers crossed its not spread to her jaw.

How annoying , and hard to say what caused what , chicken and the egg syndrome.Hope she recovers well.

my mothers little dog has a benign  tumour on her gum, she had it removed a few years ago, but vet warned it may grow back, it has and it is now quite big, )looks like her tongue sticks out)  the vet told my mother that to remove it again,  the jaw would have to be cut into and most to  it removed, my mother refused to go down that road.

That was about 4 years ago,   the tumour has grown , it sometimes bleeds if she catches it, but on the whole, the  old girl has coped with  it well, she is as fat as a pig, it does not stop her eating or drinking............or biting your heels !!!

My mother takes the view  that as long as it does not hinder her, or gives her pain, she will carry on as usual, when it does show signs of Betsy not being able to cope she will be PTS, till then, she is fine.

She has lived with this for around  6 yrs, and hopefully will have a few more (she is 11)

Just a little story to help you see though it.

My flat coat developed a tumour on her gum that unfortunately was malignant and very fast growing ,please god this not the case for you.
She was operated on as the only two options I had were operation or pts.  Sadly she did not live inspite of the operation and she had to be pts very shortly afterwards. Given that choice again and particulalry as in the story Jackbox told of a bengin tumour I would not repeat the operation which removed most of her lower jaw.

Really hope they are able to find a solution for you given how it started I would hope it is not a tumour

Same here, my old goldie has had one for about 7yrs, its started growming now but she can still eat and play.  My vet told me to chop her jaw off also, So glad i didn't
