Hello everyone - I am new to Champdogs but have read your helpful forums.
I have an Irish Setter girl, and after noticing insecurity on steps and stairs - her back legs have given way a few times. She is now having Vivitonin from her wonderful Vet - and she seems more confident apart from falling on the stairs at home today. I wonder if you can give me support from your experience. I remember Nursey (username) having experience with Irish Setters - and would welcome all help.

Hi Florence 19, I received your PM. I'm sorry to hear about Joley's problems. It's hard to see our much loved friends struggling with life as the years go by when once they were active and vibrant youngsters. Years ago, I had an Irish Setter bitch that was put on Vivitonin for TIAs at a similar age to Joley. Holly improved and became stable on the medication for just over a year, by which time she was almost 14 and had begun to have further TIAs despite being on the Vivitonin.

As far as I remember, Vivitonin works by improving cerebral circulation, therefor once they're on it, it shouldn't subsequently be stopped.

I hope Joley has a good response to the treatment and she enjoys her life to the full.

It may well be worth considering adding PLT as well. Their nick-name is "poorly leg tablets" and they worked wonders for my dogs legs. She has Vivitonin as well so I know that they can be given together.

Thank you so much for your speedy response to Joely's situation. I found it helpful - and encouraging. We'll be going back to the Vet after Christmas to continue with the overview of health care.
