just watching the remake of oliver twist. the dog in the story "bulls eye" was supposed to be a bull terrier but in this 2005 remake he looks like an american bulldog, certainly not a bull terrier. does anyone know which specific breed was used in the remake?

I watched the older non musical Oliver recently & Bullseye was a Staffie in that...it was very well 'acted' on the dogs behalf, as when Sykes beat up & killed Nancy, the dog was clawing to get out of the room & made that strange staffie noise

sorry not answered your question

Of course the breed we know as the bull terrier hadn't been invented when the book was written.

In the time of Dickens, Bullseye would have looked quite like an American Bulldog, although not as heavy, there's a very famous painting called Crib and Rosa http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crib_and_Rosawhich shows the ideal bulldog of the day and possibly more like the original Bullseye.
