Has anyone ever imported a pup from Russia? I was just wondering if the new Quarantine rules that will come into force in Jan will make any difference to bringing puppies over from other countries (admittedly I havent read the fine print yet on the new rules so not sure if this will just apply to Europe).

Also if anyone has imported from Russia did it work out quite expensive etc..

Russia is a 'listed' country so you can bring a dog from there under the European Pet Passport rules, although presumably it wont have a Pet Passport - you'll have to use the 'other' paperwork.  So rabies jab at 3 months and wait 21 days, specified tape worming dose 1-5 days before you arrive back here.  I'd imagine the expense would come from transport.  You can only fly a dog in via cargo (very expensive) although you could fly into eg Paris or Amsterdam and then drive from there via tunnel or ferry.  The authorised routes are listed on Defra's webpage. 

It will make a huge difference from non listed countries where previously they would have had to go into Quarantine or spend the waiting time in EU country.

From January they will just need to be chipped, Rabies vaccinated, titre tested and able to come in 3 months after the blood draw yielding a good titre level. 

They will also need to be treated for ticks and tapes before entry.

This is more relaxed than the current rules for Eu/listed countries.

or Brussels which is closer (assuming there is a direct flight).

Russia is a listed country though... so pet passport rules apply and 3 months isn't applicable... 21 day wait from vaccination only plus tapeworming (not ticks)

as long as you don't buy from Moldova, Georgia, Ukraine, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan as they're not part of the 'Russian federation'
