Friend of mine has just taken on an ex working police GSD, she's having a few problems but sorting them.
I am probably going to look after it when she goes on holiday and today we introduced Merlin to it.
Now what I want to know is does anyone know the whistle signals used for Police dogs?
Dug out my whistle that I used for my GSP and just to test it gave 2 quick blasts, the dog came running and sat
in front of me, obviously waiting for it's next command, no way was I blowing the whistle again as I have no idea
what the different commands are and who knows what might have happened.
All the time I had the whistle and lanyard on the dog was fixated so at least I know how to get it's attention

A General Purpose Police dog will not have any other whistle commands apart from a recall. So I would not worry about it, the reason you had the dog's atteniton was probably it was waiting for a ball or a tug....... ;)
You do not have to worry about accidentally signalling the dog to bite anyone. ;)

Couild your friend not speak to the people she got the dog from ( the police ?) and ask about the training the dogs had already so the appropriate commands can be continued i would have thought knowing these would be easier for owner and dog

Furriefriends, they are getting hellp from apropriate sources, my question was concern over using the
the whistle when I have the dog as abviously I will not be seeing the trainer

Lol, yes you have nothing to worry about with regards to the dog biting someone. Just treat him 'normally'.

Not quite the advice they have been given but it's only the whistle aspect I'm interested in at the moemnt

When I said 'normally' I meant in terms that he will not (should not) bite from a whistle command or any other 'normal' commands.
