hi, just some advice really.... my little GSD pup (12 weeks old) is teething really terrible at the min... we have began to overcome the problem of him nipping at us but he seems to be going off his food.. we have him on pedigree puppy advance & also mix in a small part of puppy meat so it gives it a bit of flavour but he seems to be uninterested. he will actually eat from my hand if i feed him but we dont want him to become lazy or rely on me to feed him by hand.. do you think he may just be finding his teeth and gums sore? or are we actually feeding him too much as he gets 4 small meals of the above a day.he seems uninteresed in breakfast & last meal at night especially. also he is scratching terrible at his fur. he has been checked by the vet for fleas with no sign but we hve fleaded him to be on the safe side with frontline. he hasnt actually had a bath since he came from the breeder and has also been in & out of hosp so could it be the chemicals they used on him to treat the parvo? are we safe to bath him now at this age? any advice much appreciated...

Hi Catsie,
Sonny, our Golden puppy is teething and has sore gums.
He's actually fed on raw?BARF but at the moment, he won't chew the hard stuff. Their gums must get pretty sore! sonny's eating mince okay for now.
Re the bathing: I wouldn't think it a problem if he had a bath but I'm still learning about puppies. i'm sure that you will get lots of good advice from those that know more than me:)
Regards

Hi Catsie,
I got into hand feeding at first as I was worried about our 14 wk old mini schnauzer not eating, but I think it was purely him being a fussy pup and wanting a bit of attention!
At the end of the day the food is as crunchy out of your hand as his bowl!
Now the bowl is put down for 20 mins and removed regardless of how much is left (only leaves a little ever now and again since), otherwise you are encouraging fussy eating. Also if he became ill you cannot monitor his eating patterns.
Rufus is now on three a day.
If you are worried about nutrition, how about on the meals he hasn't finished using nutritious healthy treats when he has doing something good later on in the day?
