Topic Dog Boards / Health / Does anyone have experience using Onsior (NSAID) ?

I am thinking of changing my GSD to this for hip arthritis/djd. She has been on PLT for a little while now and I want to get her off this and on to NSAIDs. She was taken off Metacam originally because of a scare with her kidneys, which turned out to be nothing (she had full tests and ultrasound), but she stayed on PLT, as she does well on it.  She had a blood test back in March which was spot on, in fact extrememly good, but I am not comfortable with her being on steroids, albeit such a tiny amount (she is on half recommended dose).

I like the idea of Onsior because there is no loading period and it clears the system very quickly, so if she didn't get on with it I can change to something else easily.  I have read all that I can about it and it seems to function similarly to the other NSAIDs such as metacam, just hoping someone has experience of using it and can tell me what they are using it for and whether it is working for their dog?

Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply Puggy. Sorry your girl has such widespread arthritis.

Have you found that Onsior has been as good/worse or better at relieving the pain/symptoms as the other NSAIDs you have tried previously?

yes i found the onsior just as good for Bailey she was on zubrin before and previcox before that but the specialist said that the previcox and zubrin work in the same way something to do with cox 2 and bailey does better on on NSAIDs that work as cox 2 and not cox 1 so thats why he put her on onsior i dont understand what he ment by it all so i cant really help you that way all i know is that he keeps her pain free and thats all i want she also has cartrphen injections monthly and she is on hills jd which all helps agreat deal

Thanks Puggy. I have read about the cox-1 and cox-2 inhibitors, and cox-2 are better. I think I will have a chat with my vet about it in the New Year. Most helpful.
