Discussion on the Dangerous Dogs Act and to include the question "Do you need a dog that is frightening?"

I heard some of the programme and really wanted to phone in, but was driving at the time. Some of what they talked about was should dogs that guard their home be included under the dangerous dogs act - I disagree, my first dog was a cross breed but definitely had GSD in him. He was a very loving dog who had been abandoned in Wellingborough and picked up as a stray. He had his issues, separation anxiety which was understandable, but he got over it in time. I have several young niece and nephews and he was always very gentle around them. BUT if someone came into the garden uninvited it was a completely different story.....he bit people on a few occasions who turned up unexpectedly although I don't think he ever broke the skin. In my eyes he was not a dangerous dog, but he always did his best to protect me and my family (I was 12 at the time). He never showed any aggression at any other time.

Should he have been PTS for that?

that is the problem with some of the petitions  going round which I won't sign , entrance to private property . This gives rights like some factions have in the USA and worries me ...rough collies tend to herd people onto a sofa and then won't let them get up to go to the loo ...or nip them on the bum as people are leaving, walking down the path to the gate ....
