Please are there any people out there who could give me some advise on showing my Goldie for the first time, also having difficultie in finding shows that are local to North Yorks.

Hi, you might visit the Northern Counties Gundog Club Open Show, on Sarurday 18th Jan. It's not that far from North Yorks. It's held at the Sports Complex in Birtley near Gateshead. Watching the Golden judging will help you loads. If you're not already entered, you shouldn't take the dog though.
Get chatting with some of the exhibitors you'll have a lovely morning, Goldens are usually judged early on, 10 o'clock ish.

Could anyone tell me what showing a Golden retriever in a novice show entails
- By Dawn-R Date 14.01.03 12:17 UTC
There aren't any shows known as novice shows, only Limited, Open and Championship. There are Novice classes, and these are restricted to dogs that have not won three or more first prizes at Open or Championship shows, not including puppy classes.

PS Not to have won a Challenge Certificate either,.....thats another question though isn't it!!!

Ok which classes or shows should I be thinking about to start my retriever of in. If that makes sense.

If there are any, thenLimit shows, but Open shows will be fine, just make sure you have been to Ringcraft first so that you and your dog will know what to do, and what to expect.

When you get a schedule for the show it will probably have Golden Ret classes, and there is usually a choice of classes. Enter in the lowest class your dog is eligible for in the breed (the schedule will have the eligibility criteria printed in the rules). There may also be mixed classes like Any Variety gundog Puppy Junior, Novice Graduate, Open etc, enter one of these (again the lowest), and any other class like Stakes. This will give you practi9ce, and mean that you will be compwting against diferent dogs in each class.

Not Open shows really, it is best to get the dog papers each week, they will be essential to you when you start showing. You can order either or both Dog World and Our Dogs from the Newsagents, they are £1.60 and £1.70 respectively.

They both have Websites, and if you type their names into a search engine they will come up. I think Our dogs website has a show diary, for show dates online.
