Topic Dog Boards / General / Tibetan Spaniel Information Wanted.

My family and I have been considering getting a puppy, the breed which we are seriously considering is the Tibetan Spaniel, as it "ticks" all of the boxes that we require.

We've been looking on the internet, but can't seem to find much information regarding breeders, health tests ect.

Does anyone here know, or own, this breed, or point us in the right direction for any information.

Many thanks.

Hello, just seen your message..... Yes I own a tibetan spaniel and can answer questions.
There are several breed clubs and can give you details.
Whereabouts are you.?
Have you met any tibbies .?. Have to say that  they are a delightful though independent breed .
You can pm if you prefer.

We live in the North East.

We haven't actually met any, simply because we haven't got very many (if any at all) around here.

Are there any breed clubs close to the North East?

Although you say the breed is independent, are they a family orientated pet, and how well do they get on with children, as this is one of our main questions as we have a family member who has a new born baby, and who visits everyday.

I always love reading Jane Lilley's column about her dogs' escapades, they do seem like wonderful characters!

Me too, and a former breeder used to attend ringcraft near me.

She said they are too easy to have too many of as they are so long lived 17 being quite usual.

We have two of then in our village and they are delightful little dogs and do have plenty of character ! Never phased when they are faced with our crew and love to come and say hello :-)

Hi, yes think that is quite typical of tibbies...!
Mine are never phased by anything and think that they are superior to most dogs.......
The only problem is that a lot of owners never let them off the lead as they can want to do their own thing.
Though have to say cos mine have been brought up with another breed they are O.K.
