Mated my girl 5 wks ago when she came in season, excellent mating and drawing up.  Had her scanned last week and no pups, she would have been 32 days from first mating or 30 from second, if she took then and didn't delay.

Sunday i found some blood and checked my other two girls, wasn't them.  i thought it might have been the puppy.  Her genitals never fully went down, like she was in whelp.  I checked her yesterday and she is bleeding and rather puffy.  No smell or discharge apart a little normal coloured blood.

I'm at the vets later to get her checked out but wonder if this is a split season.  The boys are getting interested in her and she's starting to tell them off.

Any ideas if she would have ovulated before or i might catch her again.  Afraid i don't know about them and how the hormones work with them.

Hoping someone is the font of all knowledge or collectively together

i do know of a bitch that did exactly the same thing , went on to be mated and produced a litter of 6 ,

Several years ago I had a bitch that had a similar split season.
I was worried and had a vet check her out.  He used something to look up inside her, and told me that it was just a "normal" season.  Although I did disagree with him.  And I think I had pyo at the back of my mind.

This was on day 28.  We got back home, and I let the gang up the garden. Walked back into the kitchen to put the kettle on, only to find my bitch tied with one of my own boys.  She had a litter to that mating.

I have this at the back of my mind also, but no symptoms of it.

The boys are a little interested in her and when we mated her she wasn't too happy.

Sounds like the season may not have had high enough jormone levels for ovulation, and she has now come back in properly.

That would be nice to have the opportunity to try again with here.

Any idea's if a progesterone test would be worth it to check for ovulation.

When she was in the other month she wasn't as puffed as she is now and not a blood so hope this is it.

I would this time to ensure she does actually ovulate.

HAve had something very similar to this with about 6 pug bitches in the last 2 years - 3 of mine, and 3 who were booked into my boys.  No problems or  medical issues experienced by any of them afterwards, but has had me puzzled as in over 20 years breeding (11 of them pugs) never had this before.  On a positive note, of those who were mated after the 2nd time round part of the season all went on to achieve litters.

One of mine has split seasons. Twice we mated her on her first 'optimum' days, no litters. The season after that we tried again, then a week later she was acting all 'tarty'  (as she did on previous two seasons) so this time took her back for another mating, 63 days later from second cycle 11 puppies were born. The progesterone test done on day 15 showed she was ready -  on day 21/ 23 the stud dog said she was (mind he had been fooled before ;) ) but it worked. So now I know to keep her away from boys till at least 28 days into cycle.

Jmust an update.  I ended up not mating her due to several reasons with the stud dog, so won't know now.
