You may have all read my post about Sheena losing her pups. Somebody said she could have been too old. She is just 5, it was her first litter could this have been the reason. I think not but what do you lot think.
Also although I do not wish to breed from her again, (obviously this has put me off), my husband is not too sure. IF we did decide to breed again it would be wise to miss the next season, wouldn't it.

She is 5 which is quiet old for a first litter 4 is the oldest i would consider breeding for the first time,
If you miss a season then she will be 6yrs this is much too told for a first time mum.
If she was mine i woulden't breed her again you should never breed from a c section vet for a year anyway your vet will tell you this.
sandy.

What breed is she, and what is her condition. Is she a lean youthful fit type? If so and she is from a large, normally easy whelping breed, then I might consider trying her again, assuming that she keeps really fit until then.

Well I doubt I would breed from her again, I'd be a nervous wreck. She is an Akita, has always been fit and well and has bounced back amazingly.

I know you have said that you won't breed from her but to answer those critics who have stated several times about breeding from older bitches. My bitch was 5 when she had her first litter, she was active, lovely condition, well muscled and had a litter of 14 at home, of which 9 survived. She was a brilliant mother so much so I did a repeat mating when she was 7 and she sailed through it.

Every dog is an individual, I wouldn't breed from a dog before it's 3, some think it's perfectly ok to breed before 2...that is their perogative, I don't agree with it that's all.
