I want to use premate with my bitch for her and my first litter, sending it to fit and fertile for results.
Well I use a few different vets for different things (1 for eye testing, 1 for breeding related stuff and 1 for the usual accidents because they are close by).
Well my close by vet has said that his own test is just as good ect ect ect...

Now, the stud is not exactly close by and I dont want to miss her prime day.
Does anyone know which is more exact? I think I already know the answer.

When you say premate do you mean the progesterone test from Fit and Fertile as opposed to a premate at your Vets. If so then Progesterone is in my opinion the only way to go. The premate test is about colours and if you get someone at the Vets that is ever so slightly colour blind then they can read the test wrongly. I have always been sent too early to the stud dog when using premate and yet the progesterone test is so accurate that they can send you the optimum day and therefore you only need to go once. I use the progesterone test from IDEXX

Idexx would always be my first choice if I needed to test.

For fresh semen or natural matings,if done correctly both the in house pre mate test kits and the quantitative tests do in fact yield a similar result.The in house colour change pre mate test are sufficient for natural matings.

Both test,including the Idexx (which is the test we run here ) are reliant on the skill of the operator.

My view has always been that if anything that simple (along with the saliva slides) was reliable then we wouldn't need to be progesterone testing and using invasive techniques (drawing blood taking swabs) to pinpoint ovulation.

As the average bitch if mated anywhere near the right time (based on behaviour and reasonable access to stud) is likely to get pregnant (bitches have a high conception rate) then these other things appearing to work is just coincidence.

Agree with Barbara.  Having tried the saliva slides, and the ovulation pads, progesterone testing is really the only way to go. 

And, in the case of a bitch that has been difficult to get pregnant, I feel that it is silly to waste any more time, and would recommend progesterone testing every time.

Yes i agree, i have my girl booked in Monday for bloods.
Just doing the pads to see if they show anything out of interest really.. :)

I've not used them myself, but know two other people who did. They both got singletons.

Not a bad idea to use the pads alongside the bloods just to see if they tally. Perhaps you could let us know how it goes?

Well i used both as stated above, didnt see anything on pads but the bloods said she would ovulate last Wed.
Took her to stud and got two matings with 15 min tie each time.
Had a very long journey up and back so we mated them two days in a row.
Fingers crossed now :)

I have just used Fit&Fertile, they are local to me. I have to say I am very glad that I did, they were helpful and quick.

I was umming and ahhhhhh'ing about having it done at 20 days thinking we had probably just missed her and give up etc, but no the reading came back to mate as soon as possible, tried last night without sucsess but he was well up fot it, this morning within minuets of arriving he had her and tied for 18 minuets after that she was still actively looking and wanting more from him.!!!

I will most certainly use them again and recomed it to anyone, best £60 I have spent in a long time :-))))

also i did get some pads bit ran out :-O  before having the bloods done, I was quite cheesed off actually as I would have like to see if I got positive results from the pads also, I will get them next time and use both.

I do believe that the pads are only Clinistix priced at £5 for 50 at the chemest ( but hard to get now, you can get them online ) compared to £14 for 10/15 pads from the company that supplies them.

Diasticks are the same but give more readings/levels, but they are greens rather than pink tester pads.
