If a bitch has had several injections to stop her coming into season and then you decide to try for a litter, what do you think would be the chances of her getting pregnant. bitch in question is 3 years old.
just wondered what your opinions are.

Have always been advised that if breeding from a bitch was a priority then the injections are not a good idea. There seems to be anecdotal evidence that bitches on these jabs when subsequently spayed have been found to have cystic ovaries.

I would imagine that you might be lucky or you may find it takes a while for hormones to become balnced as is the case with women who have taken the pill for prolonged periods.

All you can do is try!

I had a retriever bitch of mine injected for 18 months to stop her seasons once, I had no problems and mated her on her first season afterwards. She had a litter of 9 no problems.

Sometimes you have to be very careful that they don't pyometra, it has been know to happen after these injections.

I have used these injections on several of my bitches and so far no problems. The advice my vets gave me was to let the bitch have one season after being on the injections and mate her on the next, this I have done and each time no problems (touch wood !). Good luck in what ever you decide to do.

I've always heard that you should allow one 'normal' season after stopping the injections, then mate on the next.

I do know that a labrador friend of mine bred immediately on stopping the jabs, and reabsorbed most of the scanned pups, then just had two pups of which she lost one.

Never needed to jab my own bitches, so have no personal experience.

My friend used to always have her bitchs injected to stop their season's so as not to upset the male dogs at shows but with one particular bitch she came to 3 years old & she wanted to have a litter from her she had normal seasons but never ever became pregnant regardless of which dog she was mated to.
The other 4 bitchs were fine though but never became pregnant until a year off the injections.
