my girl had puppys 3 wks ago, everything goin great untill a few days ago, 1 little girl had started to breath very fast after an evening feed of mum, this continued for couple of hrs when we decided to ring emergency vet as her breathing was sooo fast, plus very snuffly, and odd cry, he knew as soon as he looked at her she had fluid round her lungs he did an xray to confirm which he said was round her right lung, he said nothing he could really do, ave us synulox half a mil twice daily, plenty of tlc and fingers crossed. ok this was early hrs of monday morning. shes still feeding off mum and does have a appetite, but her breathing is not easing, and is crying a little more than on sunday, she still trying to walk but not to interact with her sisters and brothers just to get to entrance so we will pick her up. i have her in my arms as i write this so apologises in advance for any mistakes in this, i cant loose this little girl, ive been through so much to get to this point, will explain when i next have chance, i just want advice is there ANYTHING i can do to help remove the fluid ? thanks in advance, jenny xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Sorry for the poor little pups distress but Im afraid that We ( as in forum members) can probably do little but support you.
A vet needs to give drugs which remove the fluid -ie Frusimide a diuretic which will clear it through the kidneys.
But is there a reason a) the vet didnt do this simple thing and b) why would an otherwise healthy puppy have fluid around one lung?
Perhaps the same answer for both questions...it may have an abnormality.
Keeping the puppy warm but not hot, and trying to hold it with its head higher than its body- to aid breathing - is all I can think of. Physio would help for fluid IN the lung but do little for fluid in the enclosed space around the lung. This fluid can only be cleared by either draining it externally or via the blood stream with diuretics.
Good luck.
Thanks for your reply. We wormed the pups with drontal puppy drops instead of pancur paste, i remember her not liking this very much, as she screwed her face, the vet thinks this has caused the problem. As to why he did not do more i couldnt tell you, but im gonna ring emergency vet now an beg them to do more, if no joy from them i will ring another if i have to do a 3 hr journey i will. Im raising her head but she does not like it so bit of a struggle goin on.
