My friend has just got himself another American Bulldog which is taller [and really really fat at 10 months..] than his other one and he told me that she's a monster bulldog?
So my question is, is there such thing as monster Bulldog or is she just different type and he's been told a pack of lies? He got her from a family who couldn't cope with her.
When I first saw her my first thought was that she wasn't a pure Bulldog.

There are two types of American bulldog, the "Johnsons" type is the taller and more athletic, cant remember what the other type are called but the are shorter and stockier.  To be honest though it could be crossed with anything !!

To be honest there's nothing much to say any American Bulldog in the UK even is that as they are not a KC recognised breed here -people could cross what breeds they wanted and call the offspring whatever they fancied to sell them.

The other type is "Scott".

Probably "monster" title is just a sales/marketing ploy to try to sell more of this type of dog
and possibly to the more undesirable types that use these dogs a 'weapon' or extension of their ego's.

That's exactly what I thought, but he's so convinced he's got a 'monster' Bulldog that I didn't want to burst his bubble without asking somebody else. I still think she's [at least] quarter of something else, maybe even collie..

theres one which lives close to my mum, its huge, looks like a bordeaux cross but its brindle and white. poor thing is locked in a tiny yard all day every day. As someone posted about them not being a kc recognised breed you could put anything into the mix and call it an american bulldog.

Perhaps the "Monster" part refers to the fact the original owners couldn't handle her, and not her size at all?  I lovingly call my Lab boy a monster all the time.

No he definatly thinks she's a 'monster' Bulldog. He's told all the regulars on the beach that she is one.
Well looks like I've got some bad news for him :) on top of telling him that she's waaayyy too fat and could do herself some damage being so.

Don't tell him, he may just go get another large breed to inflate his penis size!

There's a huge dog similar to your description that lives near me. It's actually a cross between a Bullmastiff and an American Bulldog (she saw both parents when she got it). It's a stunning looking dog of two years of age. She also has an old Staffie cross and both her dogs are well trained and co-exist peacefully with anyone else in the field.

I believe you can register pure bred American Bulldogs with an American registry and I know someone who has done it. Her bitch is registered and she used a registered dog too.

hmmmmm interesting. I have a question. Sorry to be taking it a little bit of the subject. My mother in law has 3 shitzues (sorr about the spelling), a male a bitch and a pup from them both. Both the male and bitch she has had for a number of years before breeding them (incidently only breeding them to pay back her daughter who brought th dogs for her) !! I dont no anything about the breed as they are not my fav choice of breed but in my opinion the male looks like a shitzue should, they both apparantly have papers and are from respectable breeders, the bitch how ever she claims she has papers for and the breeder she had her off breeded and showed the breed and all pups registered and with papers, but i rally can not believe it. The bitch is short but still very much taller than any other shitzue i have seen and when picked up feels as heavy as when i pick my lurcher pup up, (they dont get exercised and so some of it prob is from being over weight but she eats the same amount as the male) but when looking at her she looks 'bulky' and very 'stocky' looks like she has bull dog in her (not sure if thats poss but thats how she looks), her head, legs, feet and body just look 3 times heavyer than any other i have seen. Never seen papers for her or asked questions about where she was from as my mother in law really is not the type of women to question, give advice to or tell anything to, she no's everything. I really can not believe this bitch is what they say she is and cant believe she would have papers to say she is a full breed, is this right of me to assume or is it actually possible that a shitzue can look like this ??? like i said the male looks to me as the breed should and when she bred them together the bitch lost all pups except for one, which they kept and this pup has took on the bitch;s genes and is oly 6months old and already over grown the dad and catching up with the mum. Can anybody shed any light onto the situation for me to help me to understand, all 3 of the dogs do not get walked AT ALL (despite me trying to advise her about this to be just shot down by her) not even out the front door, only ever see the front drive way when carried to the car to be taken to vets which is not very often at all.
