I have been looking for a dog to join us for a bit and finally went to see one yesterday, she is beautiful - as she is a small breed i have asked if the breeder can keep her till after xmas when she will be 10 weeks old  - then she is not having too much to get used to! I am so excited! Just have to decide on her name now so they can start calling her it to get used to!! but cant think of one!!!

Trixie ?
I always find it hard to choose a name without seeing the dog and living with it. Sometimes the name just comes naturally !
Enjoy her. X

I agree with St.Domingo.

I once decided on a name prior to collecting a pup.  I had always wanted a dog called Cody.

He had been with me for several days when I looked at him and said "but you're not a Cody are you?  You're a Wilf!"

It just fitted him better.  And I swear that lots of dogs sort of "tell you" what they should be called.

i agree with you on that, jean, when a name just pops into your head,or youre going through a list of possibles, and one just clicks in your head, who knows who put it there-what a lovely thought!

I liked the name Cody too until I taught in an open prison and heard the prisoners use it to refer to their co-defendants lol

I rather like Esme. Its sucha pretty name. A terrier needs a strong name, I know 1 near me called Fudge!! She's anything but sweet and sticky!! Feisty would be better!

I agree with the others wait till you get her home and it will come. My last was called Ruby by her breeder and as she's a red collie I wanted to change it as I thought too predictable for a red dog. But it's stuck as she is a Ruby. I thought Elsa was good for a red dog but couldn't do it, she's too sweet for that name. You need a strong dog for that name. Mabel is another I would love to give to an english bull terrier or a pushy girlie. The names find themselves if you watch the dog.

When we got our rescue terrier type we had in mind we'd call our new dog Alf - but during the first evening we knew that wasn't right and by the time we went to bed he was called Finn

We joked with the children that we "couldn't think of anyfinn to suit him, nuffinn was right, but that we had to call him somefinn".

The kids repeated this story for years - to anyone who asked!!  I only recently told them it was 'Finn' just cos we liked it, and he looked at us every time we said it :)

I often wonder what his name was before he joined us
